for those of you who have knit the great american aran afghan, are you finding your squares are way off? how are you handling the gauge?

the pattern only shows a gauge for the whole project and the squares just change needle sizes, but the math doesn't work for # of stitches

I did probably 5 or 6 squares & there was definitely a difference. I was using lamb's pride, so blocking worked well, for the most part.

ooo ok so you can fix it with blocking? I am using ecowool so it's definitely wooly and should help in blocking I was just afraid the size

difference would be too big to handle with just blocking.

did you change up the needle size along with each square? or did you use one needle size throughout?

A lot of times the pattern needs the extra stitches because a cable or some other detail pulls the work in, you know?

yeah that makes sense.
I am just afraid of extreme wonkiness & I'd prefer to not have to tie up 3 different needles in this project
