Ugh! D&D Next's default setting is the Forgotten Realms. I really loathe Faerun and its brokenness. YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

If the next edition is suppose to be modular WOTC should provide guides to world building and not focus on a already developed setting.

It seems like WOTC intends to tie it up their "new" story lore called "The Sundering" from FR novel authors like Greenwood and Salvatore.

Marketing decision here. The rule system won't be Faerun-influenced.

Plus... it's not like they have another setting that's popular enough to be made into their default setting.
Gipsy Danger

True. Though I'd prefer to see Dragonlance/Krynn revitalized over FR. If "The Sundering" novel does put the FR setting in a clean slate...

it might be worth looking into it again. Here's hoping it won't be just another Time of Troubles. The only character I'll miss is Drizzt.

jylichan: Just curious, why the hate for the Drow Ranger? I personally despise Elminster on my end though.

jylichan: Yeah. I've long grew tired of FR signature characters always stealing the limelight and determine Faerun's fate.

Not to mention FR gods suck donkey.

Gods in general suck donkey.

You realize if they didn't do that, there wouldn't be a game?

I knows. I'm just looking at it from a cynical hero's perspective. Mga level 11-ish siguro.
DeathKoala

Said cynical hero would be better off becoming the barkeep of his own tavern. Classic ornery jaded ex-adventurer.

Or worse, ex-adventurer ends up as a town/city guard and bitches that was once like you til he got an arrow to the knee. (LOL)

It's DnD. An arrow to the knee will never stop ANYONE.

This is the game that pioneered overpowered healing magic, after all.

doesn't mind FR. Hmm, maybe me and Bryan can start a campaign here in Cebu. (thinking)

Shizen: You know some RP gamers in Cebu? I didn't think they were many outside Manila.

If WOTC completely removes all those trademark signature characters and replaces the FR pantheon with competent gods...

then I'll give it a shot.

Krynn jumped the shark decades ago when they aged the Heroes of the Lance prematurely and ruined them.

of the Hickmans or the third party authors? I can't recall. I suppose it doesn't really matter now.
DeathKoala

It's the fault of TSR, and then later Wizards for propagating the nonsense.
DeathKoala

Unlike the rest of their works, Weis and Hickman were writing in a setting that didn't belong to them, so they were forced to use...
