Ugh! D&D Next's default setting is the Forgotten Realms. I really loathe Faerun and its brokenness. YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

If the next edition is suppose to be modular WOTC should provide guides to world building and not focus on a already developed setting.

It seems like WOTC intends to tie it up their "new" story lore called "The Sundering" from FR novel authors like Greenwood and Salvatore.

Marketing decision here. The rule system won't be Faerun-influenced.

Plus... it's not like they have another setting that's popular enough to be made into their default setting.

True. Though I'd prefer to see Dragonlance/Krynn revitalized over FR. If "The Sundering" novel does put the FR setting in a clean slate...

it might be worth looking into it again. Here's hoping it won't be just another Time of Troubles. The only character I'll miss is Drizzt.

I knows. I'm just looking at it from a cynical hero's perspective. Mga level 11-ish siguro.

Said cynical hero would be better off becoming the barkeep of his own tavern. Classic ornery jaded ex-adventurer.

It's the fault of TSR, and then later Wizards for propagating the nonsense.
