Our free chickens are missing back feathers. 9 hens + 2 roosters in a small area is bad. I thought there were 4 or 5. Need to sew protection

Our area will be better and bigger. We will upsize next pay. We will do a mini free range area once they get used to us.

the ladies missing feathers may be due to some romantic roosters. If you say your roos are missing feathers too, you should check for bugs. OR if they are 2+ years old they will be molting now. Do you see

new feathers coming in?

I will have to double check for new feathers. Will bugs be visible? They had a tiny area like 4x6 foot including their house.

I am thinking the small place plus ratio of 2 roos:7 hens was bad mix. I will make saddles. If 2 roos is still too much, he will be dinner.

Two didn't make it in transport and into new house. There were actually 12! They didn't even know how many they had! Good grief!

I don't know how many chickens I have :-( I mean I never counted but I know who they all are ...

from when hubby had chickens, no roos are required if you just want eggs. one of the ladies mans up and takes on the role of the rooster.

i mean i don't know if you get less eggs they were still getting more than enough for 4 people + giveaways from 6 ladies.

Right but roosters are fun to have around. They watch out for their flock and can be so handsome. I love to hear them crow.

We lost two more of the severely beaten up chickens with no feathers. The man was shocked by the bloody scene. It might have come to head...

Due to overcrowded conditions. The ones with feathers are ok. I have one in the house without feathers that might not make it. Trying tlc

To warm and save, if not that will be 5 of 12, gone. They all had been badly attacked by each others. Hopefully, the rest will survive.

The rest are active and happy to be eating. We hope a roo is left if not we will get one. We would only her one in such a small flock.
