Things started off well. I was trained in a new area by our super, picked it up fairly quickly, was able to really move some product on the lines in the second quarter after break..
Another guy and myself took lunch early (11:15ish) because we were CPTing a truck (essentially, the semi pulls in, grabs the trailer, driver signs the paperwork, we do our checks, all of this has to be done in
30 minutes or less otherwise we get red flagged.)
We were successful. Had a fucking great night at that.
.. especially considering we were just trained only a week ago.
One of our group's busiest trailers became busy, as expected.
With myself and two others in the back of the trailer building "walls" out of our packages, our line was still full.. but we were busting ass.
Suddenly, one of our group that I've been told from several people isn't that great at what he does and purposely drives to slow down the operation without care (the best way I can explain it) walks into the
With four of us in one truck, one person climbs down off the two step ladder and this individual whom a number of people have problems with hops on.
He builds his side of the "wall" with boxes/packages.
I need to break here to note "walls" are built with something called "false walls" in between them, which are essentially walls with randomly stacked packages. They help hold things together if done right.
When he finished, I took the ladder from him and built my wall, as I've been trained to build my wall, stacking stack on stack tight to the ceiling, that lot.
Our ship clerk comes up out of the blue, everyone leaves the trailer except this man, the ship clerk, and myself.
The ship clerk hops on the ladder and starts moving packages because the trailer is about to leave.
Keep in mind, we're 1/2-3/4 done with a wall in front of the wall we'd just built to the ceiling.
The ship clerk takes a package and shoves the ever loving shit out of one of them at the back wall in a test.
On the other individual's side.
The wall caved in to the wall behind it.
Said man, who's foreign, laughed saying "Wow, that's a bad wall, that's a bad wall."
Our ship clerk was clearly disgusted but said nothing.
Our ship clerk then hopped on "my" side of the wall.
He took his hand and forcibly slammed it against the back wall.
That son of a bitch did not BUDGE.
I was proud of myself but, like the ship clerk, clearly disgusted.
Both of us for the same and different reasons.
It's tense as hell in the back of the truck.
We're loading packages still on this very gimped wall that's now been formed as a result of the ship clerk's slamming a package and the wall of boxes falling backwards..
(only on the right/the other guy's side)
And then, this man begins throwing the small boxes over the arm of the ship clerk who's still busting his rear off to get the truck loaded on time.
The ship clerk kindly reminds us, "Try not to just throw boxes back there."
The other person with the poorly built wall who laughed it off playing point the finger then does it again.
"---!" his name, he said.
.. I don't like our ship clerk, but I do respect him. He's in that position for a reason and it's obvious he works his tail off.
But I didn't enjoy the fact that this person, my "coworker" on building the wall, tried to pass the blame when it was he himself who built the very wall that collapsed.
I then spoke to someone whom I'm pretty close with work-wise, someone higher level than I.
He noted that the gentleman I'm referring to has had several complaints, this isn't new, and that he'd also speak personally to the ship clerk.
Apparently he heard my pleas if not my cries; after I came back from third quarter break, I noted I was no longer to do a 5:00am CPT.. my second of the night.
Instead I was sent with someone else to take care of some of our smaller, enveloped packages.. a job that requires very little intervention by anyone from the primary desk.
While I am upset, clearly, at the fact tonight was a learning experience about people as much as anything else, I am thankful there are those I work with who actually do give two shits about what's going on.
I'm just tired. :/ I need to go to bed and just try to put this away. One more night and I'm off for four.. one of which I'm getting paid for anyway.
That's the thought that counts.. I guess.
