excuse minor rant: Could someone explain where the female Harry Potter is? Why is it the next big thing in kid's books had to be Twilight? Girls went from reading about Hermione and Ginny to Bella?
Excellent three book miniseries by Terry Pratchett, set in his 40-book [so far] Discworld Series, concerns a budding witch. THE WEE FREE MEN, A HAT MADE OF SKY and WINTERSMITH.
We could push for steampunk teen novels; they seem to be a lot more balanced, gender-wise. I liked the Leviathan books a lot; sure, it's mostly boys, but one of the main characters is a girl who tries to pass
for a boy cause she loves flying too much, and another important one is a woman scientist (although it's mentioned that most scientists are men), who has gained a high position for being Darwin's grand-daughter
I still have to read the "Worldshaker" books (I gave the first one to my goddaughter, but she lost it... Annoyed), but it seemed similarly balanced. So... It would just be a matter of briging attention to them!
