what are the guidelines? fiction? non-fiction? English only? Just wondering

We will select someone at random every month. That person will select a book of their choosing. No rules as to what the book is or what genre it is from

I am hoping that it will shake me out of my literary rut, forcing me to read stuff outside of my comfort zone

plurkbookclub: Are you on LT? It's a great way to find tons of new books and challenges/group reading to encourage a wider variety!

I keep a kind of "wishlist" on an acct there, because it's good for generic editions, but otherwise, LT all the way! :-P

I tried to get into Librarything, but found I was more concerned with getting the exact right edition of every book I owned recorded...and that turned into a slog.

GoodReads is more my style. Easier for me to find new books and recommendations, and the Vaginal Fantasy book group is on there, which cracks me up.

I wish I had time to read like I used to. This plurk group should help.

I think we need one rule..... if it is a series, it must be the first book in the series.

^Agreed. Or simply no series at all.

I could go with first in a series.

Also, books should be in print/ easily findable methinks.

...although that may be a nobrainer

Of course. Though my comment on accessibility on one of the threads was more related to my location. I don't expect people to know what my foreign bookstores may or may not carry ;-)

melbymonkey: Right. I was just thinking how some books are in print but small press runs, etc, that unfortunately make them hard to find. Internationally maybe doubly so.

are we requiring English?

tatteredpage: Right right. It'd be very good if people stay with "mass market" etc type books. Anything more obscure and it's guaranteed I won't be joining lol.
