We have had a couple suggestions for rules.
1. If it is a series, start with first book or
2. No series at all.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to discuss them here
it might be good to start with something singular and then perhaps work into series...
unless you have already started, in which case I'll need to catch up!
I still think I will pick one of you at random to choose the first book.
thinking, for example, about series in historical novels which delve into all sorts of specific issues and information...
but perhaps first it might be good to see if there is enough of an interest in that genre.
Will the book titles be available in ebook format as well as paper?
about the possibility of offering title suggestions for a vote? That way one person doesn't feel pressured to make a popular choice.
better not pick me, or this is what you'll be reading
Or, rather than announcing who the "picker" is, you could just send them a private message. That way, nobody else would know who to blame if they didn't like the choice, just that it wasn't their own choice.
bronsont, I like what you'd pick!
(writing it down to put on hold! Are you enjoying it so far?)
rhicee is onto something! I like & 3rd her suggestion
I do think it should be a book that is easy to find and available worldwide. E-book isn't necessary, but would be nice.
I agree I think it should be a random person and I think it should be private
Part of the fun of book clubs is trying something you wouldn't normally read. That said, a vote isn't a terrible idea. And I whole-heartedly support the e-book availability.
No ebooks here. And I think I prefer the non-voting method. Voting gets messy. Just take turns picking.
I agree with the e-books and the random person being pm
I vote that if it is a series, it must be the first book in the series.
I only asked about eBook format, so that the person suggesting the title could note that it is also available in ebook, encase the title was unavailable in local libraries or had to be special ordered ect.
I like all suggestions here, including the Roman history book, I can get with that better than a horror novel any day.
JennasGOBO: I agree, it's helpful to note since some people may prefer that format over others when its available.
Not that it needs to be mandatory.
I agree
tatteredpage I ebook a lot now, but I love the feel of a traditional book in my hands any day!
so we'd have to start with The Phantom Menace?_
Question: What will discussion be like? Structured - questions, prompts? or not? And will there be any blackout or no spoilers time to give everyone a chance to read?
Also, is this any kind of text - fiction/ nonfiction is a given. Poetry? Drama? Short story collections?
should we choose the next book in advance so we can order or reserve in advance?
Everyone is given a month to read the book title offered
tatteredpage: I think we are open to any type of text. As for discussion, I will designate a day to start discussion.
How about if I pick someone in the middle of the reading period (say two weeks in) and have them pick the next book?
JennasGOBO: I believe so, but a no spoilers period will give everyone a chance to get through it (or mostly) without risking spoiling the story for others, especially since we don't all read at the same pace.
I like the idea of time to read than a plurk post of the
Floor being open for discussion
Maybe something like announcing the next book a couple of weeks in advance so we could acquire and start reading it, while conversation continues on the book for that month?
