Try both!

Kendo seems a bit more your style, but both will give you a great workout. If you could, trying both would probably be the best way to decide. (dance_yarr)

I'm feeling like I need to try something. I'm getting way too out of shape. I think I will check out the local Kendo school this week and take it from there.

Hopefully you'll have fun with it, let us know how it goes.

I went to a Kenjutsu class last night which was a lot of fun. I liked the sensei and it was a good relaxed atmosphere and a good workout. My only concern is that it is all kata based.

I'm afraid that might eventually get a bit boring, and won't feel real if I don't ever get a chance to actually spar with it.

I'm planning on going to a Kendo class within the next weekend, and will probably check out a lock Aikido dojo soon as well.

Ugh. I despise kata.

dkronfeld: I don't despise it, but if it is all that the style does, then it is basically art without the martial.

she could get back to Aikido. It seemed to really fit well.

Tanarian: I took To-Shin-Do for several years and loved it. However, when I moved away from Maine 12 years ago I stopped because the closest dojo is three hours away from KC.

Looking at Aikido I see a lot of similarities in some of the movements and think it might be a good fit. Why did you stop taking it Tanarian?

The class ended. It was while I was away at college.
