I mean, can you RP mainly based on the universe portrayed in the movies?

Or should you have also read some comics, too?

naah a ton of people play from the MCU which is considered a completely different universe from the comics

so it doesn't matter if you've read them since it wouldn't be relevant anyway

and i say this as someone who played a character from comicsverse

For the characters like Thor and Loki though, do you know if some people also mesh in some things shown in Norse mythology but not necessarily in the movie canons?

at worst you'll run into characters who'll recognize yours but who yours doesn't know, but that's half the fun

i've seen some people base some history stuff off of norse mythology but it's slightly more rare

and n most people draw a thick line between mcu and the comics, using the comics only to supplement what information isn't covered in MCU

like parent names, for instance

yes. some people are even against using comic verse for supplementary information (IE in the comics bruce kills his father)

i think on the whole reading the comics is really unnecessary if you just want mcu stuff
