and as I began typing "robespierre oranges" into google, it auto-completed for me

oh I finished the two books mentioned in the previous plurk, working on Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy now

again it's one of these books I really enjoy but hesitate to inflict upon others

it's a picaresque from hell

McCarthy knows diction like no other, his word choices stun because they're so surprising yet right

this is early McCarthy by the way, not nearly as sparse as his later works like No Country For Old Men (which I have read) and The Road (which I have not)

it's deeply unpleasant and ambiguous but such a grand and haunting spectacle

it takes nerve to never write a character's thoughts, and work only off what is shown and visible, the actions and dialogue

not many writers can achieve it, I certainly can't, but when it works it's memorable

also I give up on updating Librarything so I'm just updating Goodreads for now
