Yes, really, quit giving me that strange look.
I'm notorious for being a professional when I am on the clock.
So I use a lot of 'Sir's, 'Ma'am', 'Miss', and 'Dear' for a gender neutral option.
Anyways, today I had a pair of people come up to the counter.
One of them was obviously female but the other person wasn't as apprent.
They were a heavier person, wearing a baseball hat and dressed in masculine clothing but had a rather prominent chest and feminine face.
Now, we have a handful of trans* customers, so of course, unsure of the other person's gender, I let the main person doing the talking know that I would need to see 'their ID' for the purchase as well.
And the the woman slams her hand on the counter and yells at me 'THEIR? SHE'S A WOMAN' before mumbling something else under he breath.
It really pissed me off tbh.
But I smiled and apologized and prompted for the ID again, this time referring to the other person as 'her'.
I guess because I'm not psychic and didn't know right off the bat???
Some people are dumb fucks like that who want people in customer service to be robots
I tell you it's horrible.
There's a reason customer service has the kind of turnover it does. The general public are jerks.
I tell ya, another gem is when people translate Ma'am or Sir to be calling them old grandmas and grandpas
Like it was meant to be an insult
And not...just to be polite
Oh God, yes. I've gotten attitude quite a few times for calling a man 'sir'.
Or my favorite: "Don't call me SIR, I work for a living?"
Sometimes I want to be all "Well I'd call you asshole but it'd get me fired."
(I understand if it makes people feel weird because its old fashioned but it's fucking manners, not insinuation of anything negative)
I think a lot of it is because manners are dead, old fashioned or otherwise.
Case in point: I work in an older store that doesn't even have a push button to open the door, it's all manual.
NOTHING gets me more then when I'm locked behind the counter because I'm waiting on a customer and no one offers to help an old or handicapped person with the door.
Because people only care about themselves nowadays.
lmao, reminds me of this time, a little old man held the door open for this older lady and this young man sped up so he can get in through the door before the woman.
Didn't say thank you or pardon or anything.
It is awful. I run into more okay than bad customers but I do get those nice ones
But the sad truth is, for as rare as they are, they never leave as much of an impression.
I'd seethe if a saw that sort of thing it's like
The only solstice I find is that at least I don't work at Walmart.
If what I hear is true, they truely deal with america's worst (and in my case canada's as well)
