We are thinking to response other than Amsterdam. We don't want to waste too much time traveling between each spot.
^two other spots besides Amsterdam.
What are your top picks? Any pointers?
It will be mid September.
It's a great airport, btw.
That's a tough one. I don't think you could go wrong anywhere though. And September is a great month to travel!
I would persobally go to Milan or The Algarve.
I have never heard of Algarve. It looks amazingly beautiful!
heard Prague & Istanbul are beyond amazing now.
I said Rome, but we are concerned about the travel time to there. Perhaps if he met me there and we made our way back towards Amsterdam.
He is probably doing Prague and Helsinki on his own. He will be there 3 weeks by himself for work. They can travel anywhere on the weekends.
His friend wants to go to those 2 spots. Prague was on my short list.
what about London? or Brussels? They're both close to Amsterdam.
I'd avoid Spain. They are nearing financial crisis ala Greece.
Belgium is ok, the food isn't fantastic though.
I was thinking London and Brussels due to location.
My friend has been to both Prague and Istanbul and loved both.
Truly, and it sounds strange, but I didn't love Paris. Not at all. The new hotspots for Europeans are Prague & Istanbul.
I loved the Dutch people, I would go back in a heartbeat.
I'm not all that interested in France. The Louvre is the only draw.
It will be 7 days. I don't feel right being away from the kids any longer.
Then you should stay close to Amsterdam - you wouldn't want to miss out on touring time by traveling.
Were it me, it'd be Dublin or Edinburgh & London.
I'm not sure exactly where he is staying. Near The Hague.
I wish we could stay longer, but even 7 days seems like forever. Garrett will be 18 months.
Cork is gorgeous. And very very south in Ireland.
Cork, Edinburgh or London and Amsterdam would rock.
It'll be like a honeymoon!
This is great! Thanks, y'all! We just hatched this last night. He's changed his flight with work
And we need to get mine booked ASAP to keep it as low as we can.
I'm excited for you! And, if you choose Cork, I know a US couple living there that I could get places to visit for you. Ireland uses the € btw, the whole of the UK does not.
Flights in and out of Ireland with either EasyJet or Ryanair are super cheap.
Great! Anything else you think of, please let me know. I'm so excited! And terrified!
Don't be! It'll be an adventure.
Yeah, I think Italy is too far away for what you're trying to do
I love Amsterdam - we rented a houseboat
The latest is London and unknown spot #2. I am pushing for him to meet me in our first location and then we end up in Amsterdam since that is where he has to fly home from.
We have moved away from Brussels. How about Berlin or Prague?
I like the uk idea - it's a short hop. I looooooooove Prague - highly recommend, but it's also kind of a haul from Amsterdam
If you're flying, it's a short flight Prague to Amsterdam
Prague is my favorite city in Europe and I've been to a lot of them!
Yea, that is what I thought. I could fly into Prague. He meets me there. We then go to London and then to Amsterdam.
It's also a great bargain - way cheaper in the off-season, too
But he needs to hammer out exactly what he is going to do on his 2 weekends there. If he is going to Prague with his friend, I don't want him to have to go twice.
I'd push for Prague big time
He won't mind going twice! Heh.
My husband and I have been there multiple times.
Lol. It is my top choice from all that I have heard. And I really want London.
Berlin is ok - it's a really hip/upcoming place, now. Rather stylish. Prague is way better.
It would be a bit different going with his single buddy and then his wife, right?
Copenhagen was also one I mentioned. Thoughts?/
You'll have fun in London, though I despise the airport with the passion of 10,000 suns. Prague just has so much character
Or knock out London for Copenhagen?
If you're flying, also a good call.
Oh geez - this is tough. I'd say Prague over any other city. I'm not sure what your personal preferences are as far as stuff to do goes, so I am not sure how to advise on London
For me? I'd rather be in Copenhagen
There's this place there called tivoli which is a neat old amusement park - my kids had fun there
It's a port city and very walkable. Beautiful cafes on the water. Not nearly as big as London
London is fun, though. Lots to do, very stylish. Steer clear of British food. Blech.
The food is one thing i was very nervous about in London. I like a good dinner!
hmmm, so for a good enjoyable vacation, your votes are Prague and Copenhagen. London is good for sightseeing but it doesn't scream relaxing or enjoyable as much as the others. Fair?
I think London is enjoyable. I don't know about relaxing, but they have excellent restaurants - just don't go to the British ones. Heh.
Prague is my top choice. Out of curiosity, did you reject Paris?
Yea, neither of us really care to go there.
I'd do Paris over London. Closer, too.
I'm just wondering so I can give primo advice on Copenhagen v. London
They're very different cities
The Louvre is the only draw for me. Greg has no desire to go there at all. He isn't thrilled with London but will go because it is one of my top choices.
Copenhagen is bikes everywhere, cafes on the water, beautiful outdoor spaces, fun boutiques
I am one more to walk around and look at architecture, people watch, enjoy a glass of wine at a patio restaurant.
London pulls me because of all the tourist-y things to see. And the train under the water, lol.
London is busy, stylish, and much more concrete in general
Hmmm, I really disliked NYC.
Sounds like that might be similar?
London definitely has good tourist stuff to do
Yes - London is similar to NYC. Less bad attitude, but similar vibe
Copenhagen has a very different feel - more like Amsterdam.
Ok, reconsidering London...
If I were to put it in comparison to shoes, I'd say Amsterdam is a well-designed men's wingtip. Copenhagen is a fun, brightly colored ballet flat. London is more of a hip, urban modern heel
By the way, Venice is not as far as Rome and I'd highly recommend.
Venice is a fabulous, sexy stiletto!
I like Venice so much better than Rome. It's a really short flight from Prague
It's also really different from Prague and would give you more variety than Prague and Copenhagen would
Venice is so amazeballs and less crowded in the fall
Like you could start in Prague, fly to Venice, then to Amsterdam. All three are very different cities, and you'd have a lot of variety
Anyway, just a thought
Agh! This is hard! We need to decide on a starting city and book tonight!
It is hard. Rest assured, you'll have a fabulous time, though, wherever you end up!
Venice is really amazing. I'd do Prague, Venice, and Amsterdam.
I hope we get a second crack at this. His company has 2 rounds of this training. I am just not sure if he has to go to the Mothership for Round 2.
Thanks for all your advice! I'll update once we decide!
As someone who has been, I still say pass on France. I would totally do London & Copenhagen.
And Vienna & Salzburg are also spectacular.
Here's my final advice: The things that make Copenhagen awesome are the same things that make Amsterdam awesome. The cities are similar, so I'd say go somewhere for more variety
And I think I forgot to mention of all places I've been in Europe, Nice is still my top place. Bar none.
We have to do Amsterdam. I hadn't considered Venice so I am floating that right now.
I have confirmed that he does this again next year. So maybe we do get a second go at it!
We are definitely not doing France.
Venice is easy to get to and easy to get around. Just get a canal bus pass or a hop-on-hop-off canal ride and be done
I'm telli g you - you'll have fun wherever you go
Yes!!! I loooove Venice. It's so fabulous and in the fall, won't be so hot
And so many awesome places to eat and sit on the water
