Somebody did something stupid to your horse?
its a long story. I'll type it up when I get home
went riding with one of the other owners at the barn I board at.
Went in the lake, had fun! Got the other owner's mare to pony behind us into the water
Other owner is an nervous IDIOT that really shouldn't have a horse
And the horse picks up on it so is a basket case
My horse tends to look after the mare
So when we were leavening owner says "I'm going to use the rocks over there" While I'm still tacking up.
"over there" happened to be around a bend, and Marty couldn't see the mare. So he starts to flip.instead of waiting for us, she rides her horse to the road FARTHER away yet and starts calling for my horse
THEN every time we start making progress towards her she ride FARTHER ahead...when my horse wants to lead, since that's his JOB. THEN I tell her to stay up UNTIL we get there, because apparently
"Wait, we're coming" didn't get through to her.
FINALLY we catch up, and Marty gets to be in the lead.
And the other OWNER is all snitty becaue it's getting dark.
Apparently we're taking to long and she doesn't want to ride in the dark. By the way she's WALKING her horse in hand because her horse is getting "worried"
And when we get back to the barn I see the result of Marty's shenanigans is long, shallow gash on his side, which NOW has a localized infection (which MAY be do to the damned "all natural" first aid stuff
the tack store sold me). ARG!!!!!!
So I'm going to keep an eye on it. So far he's not running a fever, but if that changes I'll call the vet and get a course of penicillin for him.
So wait, you couldn't see your horse (presumably a gelding, yes?) get hurt? o.o
And why was she walking the mare? >.> Where I come from, if your horse is getting "worried", you don't get off and walk them. <.< That just makes them worse the next time around.
As my mom always says, "You're either training or untraining."
Slap some Furacin (Nitrofurazone) or Betadine on the scrape, depending on how deep it is and whether it's a wet or dry wound. (You probably already have. XD)
When you were talking about stupid people, I thought you meant something else. XD Like those who blatantly do not know nor care about how to act around horses without endangering themselves or others.
When my gelding was green broke (probably around 3 years old, which sets me at age 17 @.@) I took him out on trail. No big deal, right? He's a bright boy but spooky when out by himself. And he was.
Anyway, a teenager on a skateboard happens along the sidewalk we were crossing over to get back to the trail, (this is suburban so Cal, mind you). My gelding jumps, but the kid doesn't stop.
Nope. Just keeps riiiiiight on going toward us.
And my gelding gets progressively more upset - understandably so! - as the kid comes closer. I mean, I was too! Srsly, kid, WTF? ><
THOSE are the kinds of people I'd like to shoot. ><
I didn't see becaue I was riding him and it was behind me. I didn't see until I got home and take a good look at him under the light of the barn.
And she was walking her "worried" mare because she's an idiot that can't think beyond the moment and her own skin.
Yeah, I've had bikes come racing up behind my horse and I. My gelding is FANTASTIC with such things (that noisy Harley coming down the road? No prob! The dicky bird in the bush? FREAK OUT!!!)
But A lot of other horses really aren't. And I was insane enough to agree to help train horses by taking them out on the trails to become "aclimatized" and "road safe"
