i have a good feeling about this... the guy who previously held the position is a family friend (his english wasn't good enough, though) and my research instructor is willing to help me make some connections

and the job is at like, the ideal location: a major research hospital downtown

and my instructor just happens to be in baltimore today and tomorrow, even though she's based in florida

so there must be some kind of luck at work.
