Do you think that's a learning disability should be acceptable qualification to enter the Special Olympics?

I think that seems a bit unfair to the one who are physically disabled . I'm sure a problem like t dyslexia s not easy to deal with

But it just seems unfair but it would allow them to participate against physically challenged people

i guess it depends how you are defining a learning disability? if someone is just below average well no... if someone has a boarderline intellectual disability then i believe they are likely eligible

I don't think dyslexia is an eligible disability for the Paralympics. People with Down's syndrome can but that's different

theres a difference between the special Olympics and the paraolympics

They also don't compete against physically challenged people. Each disability has their own category (or the most like their disability)

the special Olympics is for those who have a cognitive disability (they can also have a physical one but they must have a cognitive disability) the paraolympics are for those with a physical disability

The word special feels a little condescending (LOL)

Well maybe that's where I am confusing them. I thought it was all the Special Olympics
Gil says

And it seems more fair if they categorize them according to their disability

A friend of mine told me her son is in the Special Olympics for snowboarding. I never had any clue that she had any disabilities

But in this case she says he's dyslexic and has ADHD . It seemed odd to me that those were qualifying disabilities

well i don't know about there but here in Australia you have to be identified by a medical professional as having an intellectual
disability, cognitive delay, or closely related developmental disability

in both general learning and adaptive skills

so someone with dyslexia and ADHD wouldn't qualify
Gil says

That's what seems odd to me I wouldn't think that I would qualify. But apparently it does

they may also have a cognitive disability?

she may not want to talk about that stuff
