there a tagging system I can use to track topics/key words, or any way to get email notifications? Otherwise it's like AIM to me and I'm less inclined to check it unless I need to see something specifically xD

Email notifications come when someone likes your plurks or if you get a private plurk.

As for tagging....I know that I usually tag before a the body of a plurk, either with an emote for the RP or with something like [RL] or [fic]], so you can quickly scan and read the important ones to you.
