I'm still not sure how I feel about this spinoff.
I'm worried it's going to turn into another tVD. Especially after the latest articles I've read.
I'll be in and out- I'm wrangling the job site for that dumb job and I think it's going to keep me away for the hour.
I will like it if it is like tVD. I like my supernatural with a dash of romance!
well, since the girlfriend just died again, I'll not hold my breathe.
The one thing I am excited about is Nate Bucolic (sp?) as a regular!
"I could go into detail, but I'm not going to" Love Dean
I also can't believe he's now the one telling people there's no such thing as monsters.
they couldn't use Stevie-baby's version of this song?
You'd think the rights to his version would be cheaper
Ok, is it just me, or did they completely just change their own Canon?
That's is NOT how Shifters shift.
Granted, the other way is gross and difficult to show frequently, but still.
I'm hoping they come up with some explanation
Kol is the best thing so far
If you listen really closely every once in a while you can hear his real accent
I've only flipped by a couple of time (I"m taping it). Kol really reminds me of Elijah. Good casting on The Originals part. They actually look like brothers.
raputathebuta: I had the same thought just a week or two ago when I saw Kol. It was really good casting. I'm still sad they killed him off. I'd like to see him in NOLA
Honestly, if they got rid of the newbie hunter I think I'd be a lot more interested in this show.
yup. Then it's Supernatural meets tVD
That newbie guy? Annoys me for some reason. He's too...generically smooth looking, if that makes sense.
And he's boring. And flat. He doesn't seem to have any depth at all - though I am curious as to why he just happened to have silver bullets if he didn't know about monsters
Like...he's not pretty but he's trying to be? Or something.
I figured. But that means he has a hunter connection already
Without having watched most of the episode, I have to say...they need to cut out the voice-over crap. 2 seconds of it & I'm annoyed.
I think in general it would be better if they just accepted it's another version of The Originals or TVD and focus on the clan aspect. That part isn't bad.
The newbie hunter is boring and completely one-dimensional.
patronus01: He seems so...meh. Not tough, not smart, not Hunter-y. Maybe he'll grow into it?
From what little I've seen, the whole clan thing reminds me of The Kindred, which was a great show, IMHO.
Of course, I should probably watch the whole ep before I make judgements on it.
the minute the VO came on I wanted to throw something
Yeah, that was really bad.
I think it could have some potential if they really played up the monster clan aspect of the series, because they were the most interesting part
But the Hunter kid just ain't gonna cut it.
Hmmm...interesting comments- now I have to go and watch!
But if it's even remotely like The Kindred, I'm in. I loved that show.
I need to watch the first half but the last half was kinda meh for me.
Plus the way they filmed it seemed so different from SN...too bright or something in the day time scenes.
I really think they could fix it easily if they just shifted focus away from Hunters and onto the families. But I don't know if they'll do that
"I could go into detail...but I'm not going to"
"What we do? It's kinda messed up"
I love my boys!
OK, now that I've watched, here are my impressions...
Yeah. Lead newbie hunter kid? He needs to go bye-bye.
He's just waaaay to bland and milquetoast.
Charissa's right about the shifters- WTH? The physical transformation has been completely changed, along with how they can change (before they had to touch you)
and also they could access your feelings and memories.
Now I get that they're probably trying to streamline how the shifters shift to make it easier to have them as characters on a weekly show.
But still- it bugs me that they're changing what a shifter is so abruptly mid-series. But maybe Rap's right and these are supposed to be a mutation or something.
I totally get the WHY, the way they used to do it isn't something they could easily do every week and storywise this way is so much easier, but at least make some excuse!
Lastly- right at the end he gets a call from his long-dead dad. Who isn't so dead. So they're setting up the whole son/absent dad relationship. Again. Big Daddy Winchester anyone?
I'm not sure why they'd want to re-hash the same dynamic that's worked so well on SN. How can they expect to do the same thing and keep it fresh?
I'll probably check out the new series, but based on this I'm not sure if it would be a keeper for me.
Metalligirl: Yeah, I'm disappointed they're going in that direction with the Dad. It seems like lazy writing to me.
If it gets picked up (and that may be a big IF) I'll give it a chance, but I'm really hoping they rework some things first
Ok, SuperWiki pointed out that the Alpha Shifter and other hybrids created by Eve didn't shed skin
And apparently the Shifter being held captive by that Men of Letters guy earlier this season.
But for the most part those are all special cases, and the one this season could be just to have something to point to and say "see, we did it before"
It makes me feel a little better, but I'd still prefer a clearer explanation. Ignoring it is just sloppy.
Well, then you have people like me who had no memory of how shifters were supposed to shift.
So I didn't think any thing of it. I liked the episode, I'll watch to the spinoff to see where it goes.
I do agree that the Ennis actor is pretty flat. Hopefully he'll get more comfortable in the role.
The hunter kid was pretty bland. And I too thought of Big Daddy with the phone call. But I did like the other characters. I like the guy from The Originals better on here. He bugged me before.
The whole time I kept picturing Aldis Hodge in the part. He would rock!
If they had Aldis he would have been great. Anyone with more attitude and charisma.
Yeah- for a lead you really need someone to jump off the screen at you. And this guy didn't.
I'd be perfectly happy if they made Nate Buzolic the lead. He was actually interesting, snarky (he called Dean Buffy!) and cute
I was worried it'd just be another Originals or tVD, but now I think that's the best thing that could happen to this show if it gets picked up
Which character was he? The shapeshifter guy?
He was my favorite thing about the episode
I did like him. Now if they made him the lead, I'd totally be OK with that. And I do like the clan element- very reminiscent of The Kindred. Me likey.
Yeah. There's things about this series that I could really get into. It's not all bad. They just need to do some retooling and shift the focus away from the hunters and more onto the families.
I guess we'll see where they take it.
