His species has no concept of gender, but they breathe partially through their skin. So it's just more comfortable to wear a short-ish dress than pants or something.

... Actually, the one thing that I should have emphasized but really didn't because it might have just been confusing is that it would actually be very difficult to tell his gender.

So the likely assumption if someone actually first met him while he was in his 'hero' outfit would be that he is female.

These are complex concepts for a Saturday morning cartoon show, but I explained it away in the app by saying that he wears a dress because the Omegafriends wouldn't let him fight with them while naked.
