I bet it's just for protection in the first place but then if Kagami also works for... Other things... Then good!

I have a hard time imaging Rin wanting sex slaves specifically, yeah. But... you know. That guard turns out to be especially interesting and whatever.

Well Mikoshiba's Captain of the Guard first and foremost so it's really Rin's protection that he's after though he probably also won't bat an eyelash about sex slaves.

I imagine the position is pretty extensive in its duties.

Keeping the peace, providing protection, running important errands that require a lot of trust and secrecy, making sure Princess Gou stays in the castle--those sorts of things.

That could also work though that's kind of similar in theme to that assassin/spy thread they've got going on...

Ironically, Skyler and I had chatted a bit about a setting where water was the most precious commodity and keeping/giving slaves was a sign of social standing and very common place.

This was definitely inspired by the reluctant master meme that went up earlier in the week and the idea that Haru would get given Kiyoshi as a slave as a gift and be very... what do I even do with this slave?

But that sort of aligns with Rin too since I could imagine him being thrust into quite a high social standing at a young age and needing to take over proceedings from his dear ol' dead dad.

But I think even Rin would be able to do all the expected social stuff and be in control of all his people he wouldn't expressly keep sex slaves and would probably still be considered quite soft by older people

he was negotiating or doing business with.

And I could also see him having a potentially odd relationship with Mikoshiba if they basically grew up together but, idk, Mikoshiba's dad was Rin's dad's head of guards.

But what me and Skyler were saying was that Haru would be pretty bad at keeping slaves so Kiyoshi would just not know what wasn't appropriate behaviour for a slave to have toward people of higher social

standing and Rin being like... wtf Haru. I'm borrowing this and giving it to my head of guards to train properly or he's going to get in trouble

Yeah, Haru would be pants at it. He'd get given this slave and he'd be like "... Clean my pool."

And that would be it.

Kiyoshi would become a pool boy. Until Rin was like NO!

Rin would be so ughhhhh to being given someone like Kagami to deal with, it'd be such a pain from the start.

Yeah, overall, I think Rin wouldn't be a bad master, he'd be caught in a system he couldn't do much about. But he'd want his people to be happy and would treat them as well as he could.
