Do people even know what Gluten is and where you DO find it?
It's a marketing ploy at this point, because they know that people are SO into it as a fad now.
I'm looking at a package of guacamole and it's telling me, very clearly, it is gluten free! Like, no fucking shit.
deccydoll: That's what I was thinking, but people who are smart enough to see past the fad will be like, "Duh?"
Sadly, those are the minority rofl
What's the next fad going to be? Can it come sooner?
I want to go back to eating glutenous bread without getting side eye from moms at Whole Foods.

That's true. Like, there are things you an quite literally take the gluten out of to make gluten free, but that, much like fat free, is so excessive.
Gluten is actually an essential part of any diet. Much like fat. ALL IN MODERATION.
Actually the gluten-free thing does have some merit, there are tons of products that use added flour from wheat germ that wouldn't obviously contain gluten. Similarly to added sugar...
LoonyColumbia: Interesting fact. Not something I would've expected, honestly.
yeeah, for the people who NEED to be gluten free, it's a royal pain in the ass, it's in a LOT more than you think it is/it should be.
My Aunt is deathly allergic to pretty much everything and Gluten is one of those things, but she never made a big deal about it until EVERYONE was on board the Gluten-Free train.
if you start out prepared though (as people with allergies like that do- they know they have to watch EVERYTHING, i've always had to be an obsessive label reader) you are more used to it/prepared though. all
the new people with celiac may not HAVE other issues so they haven't deal with growing up having this be a thing. like the "no peanuts"/"may contain nuts" thing that arose when peanut allergies became so much
more common- people just weren't used to dealing with it in the first place so they weren't as careful. huge signs saying "THIS MAY KILL YOU" helps for those people =p
(i'm not celiac, but i do have a gluten intolerance. i can have it...in moderation. too much and it starts fucking with my hands and i lose feeling in my fingers, as well as not sitting well with me otherwise)
It makes so much sense hearing it explained in this way, but I still think people like you are in the minority and most of it is bc yoga moms want a trend to follow.
oh yeah, there's definitely a trendy bullshit aspect to it- but honestly, i LIKE that because of the trendy bullshit yoga moms "does this water have gluten in it?" that it makes it easier to find that, at least
some of the other things i have to avoid are actually kinda harder because they're additives in fucking everything now, and weren't until the past few years as they keep putting more bullshit in our food to
