I just did some kind of nearly fatal science experiment in my kitchen. I was scrubbing the metal stove top with a metal "choreboy" scrubber. It's like a wad of shredded stainless steel. Good for scratching
the hell out of everything, but also gets up burnt on food. And I came around the corner of the stove, near the edge, and was scrubbing hard at a stubborn spot, when an arc shot out from the toaster oven
big spark, arc, brief flame (I guess as some of the metal bits from the chore boy burned. Somehow I didn't get shocked, maybe the stove grounded it. But the oven doesn't work, now and it scared the crap out
