argh how are people getting it to embed? IDK.
but while it thinks I'm from california, you can clearly see NE ohio as a thing.
ah OK that's how you embed it.

I just have a few New England word choices (mostly from my parents living there for several years and not from me living there, actually)
just enough to confuse it as to whether I'm a real midwesterner.
(The most distinctive answer should be treelawn, too, because that's a very NE ohio word.)
(Also, I think it'd be more accurate if it let you pick multiples for some answers -- like I'll say access road or service road but none of the other options.)
Road verge - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia wow, tree lawn is the word I know, but they blame Ohio for the majority of terms!
Like half of those should ping for somewhere in Ohio. But tree lawn was what was actually used in my Florida town.
Anyway, it did peg me pretty strongly for FL and OH on the color map, but the cities it wanted to tie me to were DC, Buffalo, and Rochester.
I wish it had let me say, look, a yard sale is in your yard, a garage sale is in your garage, and "rummage sale" sounds outdated in a "my parents' generation" way to me.
haha, yeah, that one got me too. Though I'd use rummage sale for a group fundraiser type one, like at a church. where there is no yard or garage.
I wish it'd let me see the maps for choices I didn't make -- I know it all comes out of that same study everyone references, but these maps are easier to read than the other versions I've seen.

it makes it sound like that strip of grass is a special lawn just for your roadside tree
Well what else would you use it for
It's for palmetto palms in Satellite Beach and idk what here. Beeches? Birches?
There's actually a goldenrain tree on my current one.
Anyway, agreed about rummage for churches, although I hadn't thought about it, because my mom's church calls it the White Elephant sale.

but i've only ever heard white elephant as a possibility for holiday office gift-giving
Same here with white elephant. For tree lawn, that's mostly what people put on them; in Ohio at least the city owns them and can plant/cut down stuff in them if they want, although usually they don't.
I remember the confusion when I called our town to find out if we could plant trees in ours because they were like wtf are you asking?

it just sounds super considerate, like "our house has a lawn, so let's make sure the tree also has one"
haha. as opposed to the areas that evidently call it the devil's strip.
