It's a canon point that rifts happen rarely and in remote places in FFTA2. And normally we're all on board with sticking to canon as much as possible. In fact, it's why folks starting out are in remote places.
However, we wonder if possibly the remote intro is making things to difficult on starting players/intros.
This could also be due to any sort of smartphone/network not really being established yet, though eventually yes that's coming.
Should we change starting spots so folks can intro in populated areas (at least until some sort of phone/network is introduced ICly)?
If that happens, the locals are very likely to be angry/scared of any outworlders thanks to dragging monsters along with and fear of the unknown. Anyway, thoughts?
/parks in here for discussion
I feel like.... the way they are now is difficult, yes?
so maybe the demands for the activity can be a bit
until the network gets up?
mmm so maybe make it ok for populated places until the network goes in?
Yeah, I'd say it's, ah, making things odd. And putting a lot of pressure on the mods to NPC interactions
at least with Rinoa's she can wander out eventually and find people
But also that will expose Shadow Sword more
and make what she does more obvious
and more people may dislike her
Which I think you guys don't mind and I need to tag that back brain work but puts more pressure on you and honestly makes it slightly odd for intros?
all of these are ok, she's a crabby angry thing anyway
I dunno, I guess I just find intro'ing against PCs easier most of the time
and you haven't given Tidus any porn yet shame on you
Yeah, I'm not sure how to solve it..........
so let's just say intro anywhere for now, review it once there's a network
I don't mind introing in far off places
just forces me to be creative
revivals of dead antagonists will still have to be done in dark, remote places
I don't mind, either (but then again I didn't quite do one uhhhhhh - )
ideally I just want to make everything easy and accessible for people
and hopefully enough people will sell/turn over phones that basic cell service can be possible in a couple of months
perhaps maybe then it should be encouraged to have people intro characters closer to towns?
or would that be a bit too...picky?
like, more of the major ones? ie Rabanastre, Archades, Bhujerba, Balfonheim?
part of the problem too is that Ivalice is really frigging huge
so not completely be like "ONLY INSIDE CITIES"
which is awesome because it gives oodles to do
And insta-transport doesn't happen until you've touched the relevant crystal
And in some ways, with so few players at the moment...?
I feel like it's causing a bit more of a problem than if we had, say, a lot more people - not to say that's bad because small games can be muy bueno
but the chances of someone coming by/being in the area are very slim to none
Yeah, that was why I took so long to pick arrival points. I wanted something with a reasonable chance of people
And then, you know. Blowing shit up
and god knows, blowing up Bahamut is a way to get attention
in some ways, I want folks to show up more in cities
just because then it forces more folks to pay attention
but again, you then start questioning which cities do you constrain it to? Is it feasible or reasonable?
yadda yadda, back to square one
The restriction we had in TnT about arriving somewhere other than your canon origin was good because it forced characters out of their comfort zone and prevented cast-turtling
But since we're not world-combining this time it makes it harder
yeah I'd like not to restrict it to only a few of the cities
are the rifts more likely, with the mechanics or plot you guys have, to show up in areas where the mist levels would be high?
because you could say then that "here are the areas in the games that have the highest Mist levels"
"you are more likely to spawn in these areas"
they are fairly limited, though?
for now I struck out the somewhere remote restriction just to make things easier
but you'd get to see some really screwed up areas.
mostly I know we were trying to be authentic to canon material, but I'm more concerned with making sure everything is accessible for folks
and it may have to be that way for now
it's something we can absolutely come back to later too once it's less new and bigger and stuff
I think once the phones are a thing, that should make things easier as well
assuming people share numbers?
Maybe give people an IC prod with the grimoires taking note of people appearing in the area or something?
So that characters who are close by have an IC reason to go check out the newbie if they're the type to do so
the grimoires all conspire against their owners
"Hi! You don't know where you are or who these people are BUT THEY CAN HELP"
So people can take on the role that the NPCs are having to play now
So the grimoires could be my phone screaming at me about Amber Alerts at three in the morning
all the grimoire pokes at people
I have you on fucking silent stop it
since they make magic sparkly sounds when they're doing their thing XDD
I think that the main problem is just that people are worried it'd seem contrived if they were in the place
so a poke from the grimoires would solve that easily enough
Yeah, that's what I think (the contrived thing)
oh god, that may freak some of the characters out, however (as I think about Vayne..........)
would that then be too much to ask/expect that the grimoires may try, even past the character's intro, to basically introduce the characters to one another?
as though they were metal detectors?
it's probably too ridiculous and hammy, I know - as I can imagine at least with the energy a rift puts out, it would make more sense
the FAQ says that grimoires can display things that might be important to thier owner, so maybe if we have an ooc post where we make lists of character pings that we're okay with being broadcast OOCly
then the grimoires could 'hey there's a person who could tell you about THE THING here'
if characters had a matching ping
that is an excellent idea,
oglops
so there could be a sort of list that people could look at without constantly having to ask everyone who came in
Say one of Firion's things was EVIL EMPIRES
an XIV character might get a 'hey did you know there's a guy you could talk to about EVIL EMPIRES here?'
I am going to steal that Amber Alert explanation too tho
DESTROYING THE EMPEROR'S FAVORITE SET OF HIGH HEELS
I am seeing strang OKCupid dating things
Or Eiko and Rydia might get pointed to each other because they're both eager to meet other summoners
"both tHIS perSON and YOU have blank and blank in common!"
...Wait, no. WE're going about this all wrong
They'd name themselves after Al-Cid
OKCaptainBaschFonRonsenburg
Would it be possible for us to sort of thread underneath with possible Grimoire notations or pings?
lemme create some sort of tracking post for it to link
trying to deal with pushy shit on the phone augh
o7 Just so folks can opt in or not (though I imagine it would happen anyway)
/puts ping post on the to do list
