You should tell me how it went! I haven't heard much yet
OH MY FUCKING GOD IT WAS AMAZING
(I got the one
similitude send me last night too |D)
DID THE COMBAT WORK IN PLAY not that I have a proprietary interest in that or anything
I literally had like a half-hour complete my-reality-has-shattered nervous breakdown crying jag on the floor and then later took time out from the apocalypse to talk about my gender feelings
it is the type of experience I strive to create in my games but never get to play out because I have to run my own games
yeah that sounds about right
the GMs were super on the ball about handling it effeciently
this does not surprise me but I'm glad to hear it all went well
(I wish I'd gotten a photo with my girlfriend (and her freaking latex demon wings) or, uh, me '-' they were both utterly fab)
my only real complaint is that the boss fights seemed almost too easy?
I am not sure anyone actually took any wounds fighting spoiler spoiler endboss spoiler
yeah, our calibration was probably off on those
something to keep in mind as we revise!
and parsing funky card text dealing with flips and unflips and draws and other deck manipulation was a little flskdjf for me, tho I was also in the unfortunate situation of
/pulls a batch of shit from the paradox deck /oops bossfight before I even have a chance to see what I got
but idk. I was probably also overthinking it because of course in a bossfight 80% of your plays don't matter except for playing the hold-onto-your-best-card game
nah, paradox is a weird and complicated deck so you kind of got a bad situation
lily and I basically spent all sunday raving about the game as we oozed home, like from mechanics to character stuff
DD
yeahhhhh AT LEAST MY WHOLE DECK WASN'T PARADOX some people '-' did that '-'
I was fighting side by side with, ah, me '-' who had done that '-' it was beautiful
this is what happens when you fuck with [REDACTED], kids
we were divvying up into boss circles and the one next to us was like WE COULD EVEN OUT and I was like EH OK and that characters player was like ACTUALLY NO WE SHOULD FIGHT TOGETHER LOL '-'
also that player is an awesome dude and knows a batch of the stuff I know and freaking lost his shit when the [redacted] GM was like "hi I am a guy with a long nose"
I was standing next to him and started singing aria of the soul
did stella end up actually doing simple and clean? we saw her choice and just started laughing hysterically
BUT YES overall I would say that is the most efficient handling of cinematic combat I have seen in a LARP, and god fucking bless separate mechanics for normal and boss combat
I just laughed really really hard
I LIKE DOUBLED OVER OOC, AND THEN IC SIDLED UP NEXT TO MY IC GIRLFRIEND AND WAS LIKE FANGIRL MOUTHING ALONG WITH THE LYRICS
I'm really glad the boss mechanics worked even if the scaling was off, because we spent a while trying to work out how to manage those efficiently
I think it was coyote who commented like lol, there is a music choice you will appreciate during the game and I was like OK '-' I think they noticed me being ridiculous
(also for KH shoutouts, I fucking love the "dodge roll" card with the aspect of "hope," I got one as a paradox draw and clutched it to my lacy bosom)
I have like struggled forever with how to handle cinematic combat in a vaguely efficient manner in one of my games, and this system neatly nuked like 90% of the problems, including the problem that normal
combat and boss combat work on very different scales
I didn't end up doing most of the actual card design, but li-chi and coyote did an amazing job
(honestly I have wanted to gut the mechanics and do a ground-up redesign on that game for a while and if you guys would be willing to let me crib this mechanic, I would be forever joyous)
(it is pretty much what folding the river needs)
I'm okay with it but obviously ask coyote and li-chi in primacy
(I actually designed your IC girlfriend's deck as one of the few I did do, so |D )
( |D |D oh goodness, I hope they got photos of my IC girlfriend for you. especially post-transformation)
jpegasus: THANK YOU '^' probably one of my fave costumes I've managed for a game
(the coat was my housemate's, obvs. it doesn't actually fit me, but it worked. current housemate is a hetalia cosplayer, it's a soviet officer's uniform, but sshhhh '-' it looks utena-esque so '-')
oooh you look good
/sneaks back onto plurk two days later in California to save it for memories >.>
oh wow, that looks like it was an utter blast
vikarmic: as a spirit-of-the-staircase addendum to mechanics commentary: one thing to consider when rebalancing, if you want to make bosses scary but still go quickly, might be boss deck cards that
like there is enough healing built into the game and relatively little non-boss combat
that you could totes have boss cards like "if you win, wound the whole circle; if you lose, wound the current active player regardless" as mass area attacks or w/e
that way even if a boss is massively overpowered numbers-wise they will still deal out some pain as they go down
hmm, yeah, that's something we'll toss around I think
it would definitely bring more scary
given how fast y'all bonded up, maybe autowounds might be a good thing. it'll go into the playtest ideas pile, for sure.
