I was worried I would forget what was happening when I left off, but it's all coming back to me.
Just starting volume 23 and the big scanlation gap happens after 30.
Children, please.
Miyuki is such a nerd.
i love the dorky eijun/furuya rivalry, it's so gr8
i think the anime might actually already be caught up to the scanlation gap or maybe it's already past that... i've been considering whether i should start watching it again
but i h8 how crappy the production values in it are so i prefer the manga generally SIGH
I watched a couple episodes of it because I couldn't remember the early games too clearly and the scanlation at the beginning is kind of rubbish in places.
It's fine I guess? Underwhelming.
Also there's a tumblr audio post that's just a compilation of Miyuki laughing like a hyena at everyone so that pretty much covers anything I could want from the anime.
It's funny, because I usually find following the manga to be a lot faster that following the anime... but with DnA it was the complete opposite. I used the anime to catch me up on the manga, but yeah, it's
not actually amazing, just... serviceable.
But then I kind of feel that way about the manga too. It has really cute characters and I like when it focuses on realistic baseball things but oh man the games... can be a real slog... and THAT IS THE
OPPOSITE OF HOW I SHOULD FEEL ABOUT A SPORTS ANIME OR MANGA FRANCHISE
Yes, the games can be very samey, especially the practice ones without really distinct opponents.
Also Daiya hasn't been giving many out of context innuendo moments recently and that's a bummer.
These dumb children.
This sounds like a romance novel.
i like the voice acting in the anime, it's just like, when there should be action baseball scenes they'll like, use a ton of still frames. oh wow still frame vibrating with action lines!
it's like, when they do actually animate things it's fine, but the amt of actual animation that shows up is so small and most of it is shitty tricks to make u think there is motion when there's none
which is to be expected from a super-long-running show as it obvsly is and plans to be, but i h8 that style so much esp when it's something where like
the main purpose in making an anime of an action sport manga in the first place, for me, is to see the sport in motion
voice acting is nice and all but the motion is the one thing that animation adds that manga can't do. so i'm just like "ugh why bother if u aren't even going to have that"
but yeah i will agree on like, eh. the manga isn't my favorite either. i do think it gets bogged down at times
and i personally just don't love any of the characters a ton so there's that haha. i like some of them but i'm not like WOW I LOVE THESE CHARACTERS SO MUCH!!
ALSO AGREE FAY I HADN'T THOUGHT ABOUT IT BUT YOU'RE RIGHT THERE'S LESS RANDOM INNUENDO LATER ON
i miss the time when that one catcher grabbed that pitcher's crotch on the mound, that should happen again
there was a part in some recent volume tho where some guy got a hit (rbi maybe?) in a game and was like "i'm gonna cum" b/c he was so pleased about it haha
mei and romance novel reminds me of this one fic i randomly read where mei randomly had a crush on eijun
ok i was thinking about this further and what makes some long games in sports manga feel bogged down to me and some not at all, and i think the thing i dislike most is
when there are lots of out-of-game flashbacks
occasionally a manga can pull it off but usually throwing a ton of flashbaacks in the middle of the game just takes away from the action/pace of the game itself to me
and daiya seems to do this a lot with the opposing teams during games. while oofuri in contrast, i can't recall them really doing this much
the worst moment i ever recall of this is in the slam dunk anime, there was one ep where the entire ep was the glasses dude having flashbacks about his ISSUES and bball history
and absolutely nothing actually advanced in the game at all that whole ep, it was so boring and painful
Dragged out flashbacks are terrible.
I don't remember Oofuri having any glaring overlong examples, only little asides in the middle of emotional traumas.
I didn't notice Daiya being that bad about it in the anime? Or maybe they are and being next to Yowapeda made them look better.
Some day I'll pick up Yowapeda again. I mean, they have to finish the Interhigh eventually, right?
I hope someone has written a really melodramatic Miyuki/Mei romance fic for me to read when I get to the scanlation break. It seems so obvious.
Yowapeda's inter high will last the entire second season but is comfortably slated to end in the next few eps, so take that as you will!!
I am going to cry tears of blood when I'm finally forced to watch yowapeda s2 by my dad lol
That's good to hear that they are actually wrapping things up this time! That terrible non-ending season one got was a sad joke.
I think it works okay, but ONLY because there was the immediate promise of a second season... but ideally, they should have worked that out PRIOR to airing the first season, and done it all
Because yeah, I agree, that stopping point BEFORE EVEN THE END OF DAY TWO was pretty absurd
I had already read ahead in Yowapeda before then, so I at least knew how Day 2 would end by the time that happened, and I was still frustrated!
Day 2's ending is total nonsense. "There's no way to catch up in time!" Well this 2km is going to take 3 episodes so you'll have plenty of time to repeat that to death.
OH COME ON DAIYA I WAITED THIS LONG AND I ONLY GET A SINGLE PANEL OF MEI CRYING?
i remember "fondly" that one time when like a 300m sprint lasted multiple episodes. i thought i was gonna die
yeah total ripoff we ttly needed to see mei digging in the dirt. speaking of which, i should see what's going on with irl koushien haha. I WONDER IF I CAN MANAGE TO STAY AWAKE I'M SO TIRED
I feel so cheated with this Mei thing. It built up so long and then didn't give me ugly crying. Why must you be this way, Daiya?
I've gotten to the new coach showing up and he's pretty meh like I was warned.
I don't understand the batting order for the new team yet. Too many unfamiliar players.
New coach did give me this panel at least.
Furuya is still super cute.
I don't think Chris has shown up even once since the final game. What cruel new world is this.
Get it, Haruichi.
Almost, but not quite suggestive enough.
Raichi's back! I knew I could count on this feral child.
Oh nice, a new guide.
Okay the practice rematch starts in volume 24 chapter 208.
Thanks, Raichi. I really appreciate you.
Cuties.
Now the pitcher is checking out Miyuki. This game has really improved my mood.
thanks.
Okay, on to volume 25. I'm starting to think Eijun and Kawakami are going to make a dark pact to kill Furuya together or something.
Stop trying to pull Haruichi into your sick plots.
This is when the screeching violins kick in on the soundtrack.
I love when characters react to Furuya's angry aura it always makes me laugh.
Calm down with your Eren impression, yeesh.
This is not the time and place for being a reasonable, well adjusted human being, Haruichi. There's sports happening.
I haven't seen anyone cry in like three volumes do not deny me this imminent Eijun meltdown.
That's what I like to see.
haha eijun and his meltdowns
It's so beautiful!
That's right, stare at the floor. That's perfect.
I really enjoy Raichi's scumball dad.
i like the dead-eyed look eijun has while staring at the floor there
Yes, it's the dead eyes that really make it.
Chris is finally back!!
The current scanlation team seems to really want to marry Haruichi by their comments, that's cute.
I like that Eijun reading is freaking everyone out so much. There must be something terribly wrong.
Furuya is in fine form in regards to cuteness.
Thanks, chapter title.
I like aces being insecure about their numbers still being on the jersey haha
It's a very endearing hang up.
Though I am now contemplating the Tajima -> Haruichi mapping.
Similar playing styles, complete opposite personalities.
Such a supportive team captain.
Got to be real with you: I'm on volume 26 and still calling this guy Mr. Butlertron.
Me too, Eijun. Me too.
I like that whenever Furuya manages to say something cool he immediately ruins it by zoning out.
Chris is the best senpai.
Maybe Miyuki is going to learn from his example and be more encouraging in the future!
Good job, Miyuki. You nailed it.
Ugh, Furuya screwing up isn't nearly as entertaining as Eijun's meltdowns.
New coach is up to no good but the team is trying to get old coach to stay through some sort of Parent Trap-esque shenanigans I guess.
lol Eijun
I wonder if the second years ever catch themselves staring at Haruichi and thinking "How are they related..."
And volume 26 wraps up with them getting ready to play the third years versus hapless underclassmen game.
Taking another break to read other stuff for awhile. I'm so behind on my Adventure Time comics.
"DAMMIT I WANT TO TOUCH A BALL" eijun i can think of multiple ppl who could help u with that.
Eijun's so impatient, he can touch all the balls he wants once they hit the showers in like an hour.
this is reminding me of that oofuri part where mihashi is like "it doesn't count if there's no ball touching"
