Alistair would probably be some sort of guardian angel -- a Whitelighter, if you've seen charmed. While he wouldn't particularly be in love with the idea, he wouldn't mind it, either.

He goes from person to person, helping them as best he can to show that there is good left in the world, and that there is hope for the next morning. He's probably in a league of angels of some sort --
