just…i don't know, thought someone should let people know on here, since there aren't a lot of newsfeed circulations that'd alert people like on twitter
that's awful
you guys can replurk this if you want? i know some people do for breaking news, though I completely understand not wanting something like this on your timeline
that's really awful, I'm glad they at least have the shooter in custody right now
I hope none of you on my timeline are in that area or affected by this, I hope everyone is okay and thank god he's--yeah in custody
Oh my God
I just saw this on google news. My hearts go out to the victims and their families. I'm glad to hear the shooter is in custody.
Yeah. 10 dead (confirmed) and at least 20 injured more. It's horrifying
13 seems to be the one reported the mosg
scary. this is so close to me.
be safe this week and take care.
things are probably going to be really hectic
oh god
also,
^ you go to hell. just literally go to hell for tweeting this
Fox News contributor. Not surprising but SERIOUSLY.
lmaoooo "i wish people would stop pointing out the solutions to senseless tragedies every time there's another senseless tragedy"
fuck anyone even capable of using 'anti-gun extremist' in their rhetoric online today
Way to make this about you.
Like this is an epidemic at the national level, yet it's the ones that aren't sensible gun owners who prevent better policies from getting made.
ah, Michelle Malkin, the one who defended WWII Japanese internment camps.
this is really horrifying, though. My thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones. 8(
........ Wow. But she's literally an aside, folks. Let twitter handle the pillorying.
Speaking of "anti-gun extremists" I literally got taken out of a jury selection one time for having the "extreme" opinion that people shouldn't own guns. Like this is a thing the Judge brought up
gun control is something we NEED desperately to keep discussion alive on and the fact that people keep shaming it b/c it's "too close" to the tragedy just exacerbates the cycle. i want people to talk about it
As someone who went to that college and is still waiting to hear from friends unaccounted for, can we please keep political statements from escalated too much? It's seriously teh very last thing anyone
involved wants to see or hear, I can assure you of that.
escalating* I'm sorry, grammar is hard
n0teworthy: i'm sorry. i'm not trying to make this political
Yes, it's like not talking about building regulations right after a building collapses. We start trying to figure it out immediately so a tragedy doesn't happen again.
i don't consider it a political issue at all, though i'm incredibly sorry to hear about your friends and loved ones
i hope they are all right
I know, and I know it's inevitable but I'm asking that General Population here try to remember that people are hurting and need to not be made an example of, either for or against or wherever one stands.
I think that makes sense to me. Like it's not even four hours old yet,
It does need to be talked about. It does. But there's also a million other factors that we do not know yet, because it's so early.
Let's focus on keeping this succinct with news updates?
Pardon my blunt; my sister was on campus.
okay. i do have a strong opinion on this and i do side-eye the sentiment some but since plurk IS such a closed community and there are people affected by this, i'll step down and just let ppl keep updated
the last thing i want is to directly worsen trauma for anyone by putting opinion/discussion over people
I'm sorry - I'm not trying to silence any debate or opinion. I just... I'm sorry.
i hope your sister is well and gets any help she needs after all that nightmare
I'll just back out of this plurk entirely. My apologies.
you don't need to. it's different and you've been affected, the scope of people seeing this plurk is not quite the same so don't feel bad or like you have to be silent
if you don't want to see people arguing when you're trying to inform/keep informed about a situation that's really close that's definitely a courtesy you shouldn't have to feel bad for asking.
i'm sorry if i made it seem that way, i can be blunt online as well.
No, it's okay. You're okay.
Yeah, having been very close to a mass shooting myself, I know where you are coming from.
I'm having a hard time explaining this, I think? There's been so much trauma and hate in such a short time and I'm still waiting on word from some friends,
I'm hearing that the 20yo male shooter was killed in shootout with police,
knwoing my sister experienced this, and being absolutely unable to even see her and reassure myself. (I live in Oklahoma)
You're in the middle of a tragedy and only have so many spoons and you would rather use them on your loved ones right now?
CNN reports suspected shooter is dead, yes
I know the logical and rational response is "we need to talk about ways to prevent this now" but for many people involved, we don't want to dissect the tragedy and the debate. We need to process it first.
The death count seems to be holding steady at 13 right now. Looks to be centered in one building, and maybe one classroom.
(I'm sorry; plurk is hiding responses, too. God, now I just look like an asshole.)
Yeah. Debate can be done elsewhere. Just give some space.
Snyder Hall, I believe, which is the sciences wing.
n0teworthy: You're not an asshole. you have been affected and you did ask and give perfectly valid reasons and i'm not
that much of an asshole, so that's that. it's all right
n0teworthy: I think people's phones were confiscated according to one report, so that might compound trying to get in touch with people.
And people probably left their laptops and stuff behind
So if that is reassuring at all.
Yeah, it is, honestly. I'm still waiting word, one way or another, on a few people. My sister is terrified that her science teacher/mentor is injured or dead.
If he's a teacher, there's a hide chance he's giving a statement.
Or helping loading kids on the buses that are taking them off campus.
I'll pass that along to her. She's beyond jittery rn.
Unconfirmed that it was a writing class.
I would link you to it but it's a lot of eyewitness testimony right now.
I know who teaches that class - or taught as of last semester.
But I don't thin I know anyone in that class, aside from one person I've heard from already.
Kortney Moore, 18, was the eyewitness used for that, so she is safe.
I wish I could find a course list so I could confirm who was teaching it, but the UCC website is down.
Ucc mainstream is also down.
But that eyewitness testimony is now seeing wide distribution, so I would suggest staying away from the news and waiting for an official announcement from the university.
And as someone who was on the edge of a shooting herself, feel free to PP me if you need anything.
I might not respond immediately, but I'll be around.
FYI, we got it revised down to nine. Ten if you include the murderer, which we don't. 26 year old asshole that I won't name.
