So on the work budget this year is, a firewall and router. My boss seems to think that i can take one Comptia Security + class and then i will be able to protect the companies from the evils of the web
I have to say that im worried that i would not have the time to do it correctly. Currently we have a company that manages all of that for me.
I love the innerwebs, but i know how dangerous it can be. It is far from a safe place to do business with out the right people helping
we have a company that manages setting up the firewalls/routers and shit because cisco is complicated as hell and our phone system is cisco too and frankly 450 users spread across 760 square miles
and 4 IT people.... we just don't have the time to do it right.
I just don't want to fuck it all up, and one loose my job and two loose all the company assets
comptia security + is good, but it's not goign to be like "oh hay you suddenly are an expert in routing". Especially with a company and complicated rules.
At first I was like "Why do we outsource this stuff, you can do it yourself" but then I realized in our setup - it is better. It protects us and the county - in particular in situations with us
where the people in charge are like "Well you should be able to do that for cheaper" we have a person coming in explaining why we are doing it the way we do it..and why we have to.
i dunno, I know your dilemma and thoughts.
