everything that can be used is being replaced except maybe the showerhead? I haven't looked
the bathtub is fuckin gone, it's sitting on the curb
the TILES on the WALL behind the bathtub are fucking gone. the toilet is still there.... for now
yeah the showerhead's still there. the new bath is white, not blue, which is a bit of a disappointment but they wouldn't have been able to get a good replacement in this year
that bathtub is probably.... like fifty years old, give or take. steel bottom! I did not know this, but there is steel on the underside
sink hasn't even been replaced, and because the water for that sink can't be turned off without also turning the one in the kitchen off, we gotta use antibacterial stuff+stored water in pots
toilet is still operational, they didn't shut the water for that off because we need to live here
tomorrow they finish it off (if all goes as planned), so while we'll be missing our stylish blue ceramic theme, we'll at least have new stuff
..... even if that tub may totally be even smaller than our old one. oh well. I'd given up on taking a real-ass bath a long time ago
WHY IS THIS HAPPENING??? because the wood underneath the tiles there were rotted
so water was seeping through to our downstairs neighbours
their wall will actually have to be replaced there's so much water damage
in short, we only got such a big place in such a nice area because we got it 18 years ago and it's ancient
this is maybe the biggest replacement job we've had thus far, but it's not as inconvenient as getting all the windows replaced in winter was
things we've had to have replaced since moving here:
- faucets
- windows
- multiple kitchen tiles
- a couple of pipes
- bathroom sink, toilet, bathtub, that wall
- a weird overhanging part in the bathroom knocked down
- electricity upgraded so we could actually
use a goddamn air conditioner, but it still sucks
- our water... like, they had to dig shit up and replace it because our water pressure was the worst
we had to deal with almost nonexistent water pressure for 18 years. if anyone flushed the toilet while you were taking a shower, well, gotta wait
our heater actually died last year... but that was replaced in short order
there's also zero sound proofing so unless you have white or other noise blocking things out, you can hear everything
if my dad shifts in the other room or clears his throat, I can hear it loud and clear
also the trees in the front are cute but they've not been tended to properly so they've grown to the point where we can barely see out our front windows
which is.... nice in the summer because it cuts back the heat, but also, I can't see,
I wouldn't want them to cut them down anyway but it's not like they can anymore if they wanted to
since all trees in the city of Toronto now belong to the city of Toronto.......
(yes, literally every tree)
all that being said, I purposefully flipped my sleep schedule so I slept through everything today
I mean, my sleep sucked more than usual because of the noise, but at least I only had to ask them to leave so I could use the washroom once
appledrank: onionne is mostly okay! because! unlike with the windows I don't have to babysit my birds in my room and can sleep in the dark
and I don't have to go to the washroom in the freezing cold
Those are good things, yes
UPDATE: they had already replaced the toilet. the seat is more of an egg shape than I am used to, and I believe a bit higher up, but it's just fine and perfectly comfy so thumbsup
