Famine help me decide how to feel.
I honestly don't know anymore. I've watched it like three times and I'm just like ~HANDS~
SOLIDARITY, DAUGHTER FRIEND. /fistbumps
I kinda love how Nat looks all 'what am I doing here clint help'
Also, Trailer: your lack of Maria Hill, Sharon Carter, Dr. Cho, and Pepper Potts disturbs me. Where are my ladies.
What are any of us doing here, honestly.
The Hobbits are going to Minas Tirith all over again.
still 100% behind the fact that she only joined Tony's side to make sure no one kills each other and she's like 'fuck this is not going to end well'
did i say fact i meant headcanon but it is FACT TO ME
hahahahaha, because Nat is one of the only people who can handle both Tony AND Steve, lbr
but I guess we'll see where the writers stand
she and clint either flipped coins or she went 'look i know steve he's easier to handle just...let me take tony this is going to be a shitstorm'
...since they seem to think they've written Tony having a legitimate position which is supposed to be the whole point of the storyline, I thought???
Indeed. I enjoyed TWS immensely, so. If I get mad at anyone it'll be the writers.
then something happens to Rhodey and she's like 'fUCK'
Rhodey. Rhodey. MY PRECIOUS SUMMER FLOWER.
Nothing is allowed to happen to Rhodey IT IS AN OPTICAL ILLUSION
he probably bumped his head
...although after AoU I guess you never know. :|
Also still no Spider-man?????? I'm beginning to think Sony and Marvel are just playing an elaborate April Fools joke on all of us
/and slides away from this plurk
(I still need to see TWS actually)
I'M SURE RHODEY'S FINE BUT SERIOUSLY MAKING RHODEY BLEED IS PROBABLY THE ONE WAY TO SUREFIRE MAKE TONY WANT TO HURT THINGS......
but Amazon is seemingly doing that thing where they realize a movie is actually quite good and so they never put it into rental availability
Team Sam and Rhodey in a coffee shop for the entire movie facepalming at their super impossible BFFs
and I'm not paying $15 to watch a movie on the internet at home :x
I think Youtube might have it for cheaper?
literally everything else MCU is available to rent
Help. Sinthia is drowning in vicarious feels. I cannot, oh god.
also wait wait wait what happens to Rhodey? did I miss some clue?
Obviously they are waiting off screen with a taser trap so they can put all the dumbasses to sleep until everything is over.
repositorian: In the 1st trailer we see Tony standing over War Machine's prone body in a landscape of wreckage looking mournful, & then in this trailer we see him holding his body with the face mask torn off.
So clearly we're meant to expect the worst.
...WELL DAMN. I do not approve. :<
Marvel continues to fucking make kick ass trailers
ALSO IS IT GODDAMIT BUCKY OR GODDAMMIT TONY
I tend to say both, except that Tony also has all that also I'm the heroic main character, everyone should love me rhetoric going on.
so I have that much less patience for Tony XD
ahahaha oh man that was super cute
i expected more fizz at the end because of how much that can had been jostled around
lmao Kaze I love how you were looking for realism in the Hulk and Ant-man ad. You are the cutest.
it would've made it more fun, okay
I really do not think I can get behind Nat not being on Team Cap, man
I was talking about that with someone yesterday and just
I can only accept one of two reasons I see right now
1) she's just trying to minimize the fallout and trying to make sure no one kills each other and everything spiralled out of her control
2) she feels hurt and betrayed that steve didn't ask her for help finding bucky. this is, honestly, the less likely of the two I think
Steve and Nat are one of my BroTPs so basically if Civil War ruins that I'm going to have even more reasons to dislike MCU for going for the Civil War arc.
Kevin Fiege. If I meet you in a darkened alley, you watch your back.
I am just gonna sit here and go "tell me she's a mole". Nope, nope, not allowed to turn her back on Steve and Bucky.
Because if she does, what was TWS for
I don't even know what Civil War is for. I'm still MYSTIFIED as to the inciting incident that gets us to this place.
can't we just have Sam flying around being all sassmastery and Steve and Bucky being broken bros and Nat being awesome
I'd be behind that as a Cap 3 movie
I've always felt it was a bit "we want to do a social commentary piece, make it happen."
Eh, I can see it. The papers set down by dickhead govt official said 'The Sokovia Accords' and after the shit that went down in AOU between Hulk in Wakanda and Ultron fucking dropping a city...
People would be screaming for accountability from someone
Which is more or less how the comics civil war storyline went down
Tony is gonna still be on his Atoner kick because he's going to feel directly responsible for what Ultron did
all I can really say is that I know they're going to want to paint Tony as credibly heroic and I'm 90% sure I will have a very hard time seeing it, given the direction they seem to be taking :x
As a character motivation though, it works. Now, their job is to explain why an ex-KGB assassin and someone who knows exactly what Bucky meant to Steve aren't fighting like hell for him.
If they were just squaring off in the pro and against camps like in the comics I feel like the division of teams would be more understandable but with Bucky firmly in the middle of things it rings false
If Bruce hadn't fucked off to god knows where we'd definitely have a much different movie
it would all ring a lot more true if not for Tony being so dead set against any actual accountability for himself ever :x although maybe they'll set up a change in his tone at the start of the movie, idk
Basically what Famine said, yep.
ultimately I don't think we're going to get anything close to the comics Civil War, which isn't necessarily a bad thing at all, there are just currently plot holes I could sail the Titanic through.
but yeah Bruce would change a lot, definitely :x
(I really hope they do more to make Tony sympathetic than the trailers seem to imply)
As long as they don't drop the PTSD thread right after starting it, honestly. Because that will piss me off.
Hey writers, if you fuck someone up in the head that much through IM3 and AOU, you're gonna have to follow through permanently. It's not going to just go away.
idunno the source material is comics
yeah this is what I mean.
It's a big part of the reason why I was so unhappy when they announced Civil War, even making allowances for "well MCU miiight be able to actually make this arc better than it was"
...but IDK that I trust them that much.
because they've set Tony and Steve up into a position where ... something is going to end up a hot mess, and I'm just trying not to get annoyed before actually seeing any of the movie.
heh, nah you hadn't let me finish.
really i think the danger with Tony isn't so much his PTSD as the interaction of his PTSD and his narcissism telling him NOPE I DON'T NEED ANY HELP WITH ANYTHING EVER I'M DOING FINE
I sadly don't trust them that much at all these days. I love the writers they have on deck for this, but lbr every writer & director they've hired on is having their strings pulled pretty hard by the prod crew
OOC, my biggest concern is what the writers do with that.
Exacerangutan: Tony's entire character arc begins with accountability though. He becomes Iron Man because of the people using his company's weapons. He's trying to atone.
Tony isn't completely narcissistic, he's actually really altruistic, he's just really stupid and abrasive about it because his ability to interact with people on a real emotional level is utter crap
That's what I'm reading from the 'but so was i' thing referring to them being friends. Steve doesn't think Tony likes him because Tony is, admittedly, a jerk.
Tony, on the other hand, doesn't know how else to be. He genuinely thinks they're friends and he doesn't get that it can't be on the level of Steve and Bucky because lbr they've gone through some shit
And Tony probably has trust issues you could drive his entire fleet of cars through, thanks Obadiah. And it's also heavily implied in TWS that Bucky, as Winter Soldier
was responsible for the 'accident' that killed Howard and Maria
That's gotta come into this somewhere.
I don't think I'd set narcissism and altruism as mutual exclusives, though, although they do push in contradictory directions.
I have two comics girls just waiting to see how this shit goes down.
I am hereby reserving your comics girls for ALL the fallout threads once we know.
because this is not gonna end well for Steeb.
HA god no Noriko will so think Tony is an asshole who needs to be smacked a good one. Sinthia doesn't know what to think. Sooraya says nope and is not engaging
I am not up to date on movie spoilers (I never am), so do we know if the mutant registration act (or anything like it) is going to play into CW at all or if it's totally nixed?
they still don't have the licensing necessary to mention mutants
that's owned by a different studio
I am disappoint in this, though, because my god noriko had like, the perfect response when I heard it was gonna be civil war before I knew they wouldn't be doing mutants. it was glorious and augh
cornichaun: Right, I know that much, but since they're playing with the Inhumans and establishing mutant characters in the MCU just under a different name I was curious if there were talks of that.
which they've been playing with on Agents of SHIELD with the registry of Inhumans, but since the whole "is/isn't part of the MCU" debacle I didn't know how it was going to play out.
*play out in the movies, that is
AH yes. yeah, I have no idea
Civil War without mutants is basically 99.9% of the reason none of this makes sense to me. If they're not fighting over the registry, then why are they fighting each other at all?
(Granted I think Famine is totally right, in that Howard and Maria's death is prooobably going to play into this whole mess, but. Still.)
On the one hand, Thor wishes he could be there to help... someone. On the other hand, he has just enough sense to be glad to not be in this mess. Bruce too.
I think from one of the trailers, some form of registry is involved... like, the way things are laid out when Thunderbolt is on screen in one trailer... is seems to imply it.
I've only seen the first leaked trailer from a few months ago and this Superbowl one, but granted I haven't done the slow-mo play-by-play this time to try and catch those details. XD
I can't imagine they'd go to so much trouble with this season of AOS setting something like that up, coinciding with their plans for Civil War, and not try to link the two, but.
The trailers aren't exactly giving much info besides dividing the fanbase up into whether they're team Steve or team Tony
'You've operated with unlimited power and no supervision. That's something the world can no longer tolerate'- Thunderbolt Ross's quote.
So I think they are headed for that.
....except I feel like that describes Tony more than anyone else which makes it a little hard to swallow, for me. :x
Yeah but Steve's the one who would actually sit through a dressing down like that and not just get up and walk away, so. XP
Exacerangutan: yes. That was always the problem with it, even in the comics. Tony did this about face, and suddenly was the face of authority.
there are ways to write that
also it's not Civil War unless Maria Hill is Director of SHIELD cough cough
...but I feel like it'll be hard to do it well and keep him as Heroic Role Model Beloved Idol Tony...
Exacerangutan: yes. It may be endgame for RDJ, to transition Tony to villain?
Because, he keeps saying he wants out.
IDK, we'll see, I'm not sure I trust them to write it that well
I kind of expect Tony to not make a lot of sense for 80-90% of the movie and then suddenly make up with Steve at the end when The Real Bad Guy is revealed to be Ross
Exacerangutan: true facts. Or they might write it that well, but it wont make it to the screen that well.
oh yeah by "them" I mean the net product of the writers and executives
I mean I'm 100% open to being pleasantly surprised, so I don't mean to be dogmatic about this
like does rdj want out-out or is he open to cameos
because i could see this very, very easily being the proverbial straw that ends with him going 'YOU KNOW WHAT FUCK ALL THIS I'M DONE.'
and maybe show up here and there in future movies just to send off a witty one-liner
if they pull a fucking heroic sacrifice i will be so mad
that's one of the things I'm afraid of
...well. That's a part of my greatest fear of where it might go. Really, I fear them pulling a heroic sacrifice, but it ringing hollow.
He said he quit after Avengers. And after iron man 3, and after age of ultron, so who knows?
yeah, that's basically my thoughts on it. The info we get once it goes through the "telephone" process of reporters and editors is so far removed from what the celeb actually said
they want out, they want in, they did this dramatic thing, they did that thing -- who really knows? The only assurance is when they've got a contract, there will be movies. When they don't, who knows?
I'd like to be pleasantly surprised. We shall see. I'm definitely not the type to hate on something until it's actually in my hands.
