I think there was a general movement toward a particular episode of UK anthology series Black Mirror to kick things off. Am I wrong?
There are actually three good episodes from that season dealing with virtual reality and/or AI personality replication. Maybe we can do all three? Or is that too much?
It's up to the community! The episodes are on the long side though, right? Aren't some of them ninety minutes?
well, here's the data: the initial episode of interest is "Be Right Back", at 44 min. I'd suggest adding "White Christmas" at 75 min. (with Jon Hamm!); this actually has several sub-episodes in this vein.
(I was remembering parts of "White Christmas" as separate episodes, but they are actually all part of that one longer 'special')
excellent, I'd be up for watching the episodes with the same theme
is the be right back episode the one mako suggested?
But then again, there's that 0.01%...
i had a thought that we should watch movie versions of books we have read together, for example the reader, the hunger games, a single man, tinker tailor soldier spy, brideshead revisited...
even to kill a mockinbird, i am sure there are others. and of course not all, just choose some from that pool and add film adaptation as a topic for discussion, you know?
maybe going forward we can read the book and watch a movie adaptation (if there is one) in the same month?
put song of the sea on the list
we wanted to watch that twins documentary: twinsters
Are we starting with the Black Mirror episodes?
Yes, let's start with the Black Mirror episodes "Be Right Back" and "White Christmas."
I'll arrange the date later today. In the meantime, if anyone has strong feelings about when we should meet please feel free to speak up!
do we recall that Wednesdays are working better for you at the moment?
^ that won't work for any west coaster
Wednesdays are better for me until June
samakaza: you you mean "earlier than 7pm SLT/PT" ?
"Polly Paperclip 2 hours ago

for me 10 pm slt is too late. So I'm speaking up.
yes, if it could be earlier in general it would be better.
lol just to clarify: you guys are meaning 7pm slt/10pm est, yes? For me 10pm slt is also too late - it's 1am est
7slt/10est is also pushing it for me now that I work the early shift. I'd love to meet an hour earlier. But even that is problematic for west coasters. Maybe a half hour compromise?
earlier would be fine by me. owly is on a break and she hasn't come to book club or movie club in a long time so this would only affect loki currently.
loki probably could not come. he sometimes barely gets home by the meeting time or after we have started sometimes. however I do think he gets home earlier on Wednesdays so that might work temporarily.
Prue, will you be able to work with this?
Geez I just can't get my timezones right today
- whatever time we are currently meeting - which is 10 my time, 7 slt (right?) is too late for me. /fin
I realize I'm only one person but just thought I'd throw it out there if there was a possibility we'd be changing it.
I think everyone but loki is now on eastern time! (besides our international plurkies I mean)
And I'm only one. It is true that right now I slide in often right around 7, and this summer I may not be around Wednesdays.
we can change it to another day once mako's class is over though
We are mostly on EST but Polly keeps SLT hours.
10pm used to not feel late but it is hard now!
It looks like our next book club isn't until April 11th (The Shadow of the Wind). I don't see anything else on the calendar.
Shall we have movie club on Wednesday, March 30th? How does 6pm SLT sound?
i thought we had moved it to wednesdays. which would put Shadow of the Wind on the 13th
we need a calendar update on that; is there a time tweak as well?
Ah, I'm just going by what's on the calendar and Shadow of the Wind is still on the normal date and time.
Coy, can you schedule movie club on March 30th at 6pm SLT?
It is done (someone double-check me!)
the brassbright entry is also changing since i'll be out of town pretty much all of may and that was my pick
i could do it may 4th or resume mondays as of june
but also we need to check ceejay's availability
Does anyone know the season:episode of the Black Mirror episodes? I have some limited access on my on demand but it doesn't give episode titles.
yes sorry, i was not on plurk yesterday. yes, we had said we would move our shadow of the wind discussion to wednesday the 13th. let me make a reminder. also 6 pm SLT is fine.
