I feel a great disturbance in the Force. It is as if two massive space franchises are colliding in my life, and I have conflicting emotions.
(about the DD remake anyway. I never have bad emotions about Lando, my star.)
I am super excited Bill is coming back to Dragon*Con. It is always a treat to interact with that man.
/vibrating in place as I wait for D*C to start releasing some news about the epic 30th already, gosh it's taking SO LONG
I think they're doing it on purpose, Amanda. Every year it's Thanksgiving that we get our first big beautiful guest list.
It's March and so far we have a lot of awesome illustrators and authors but very few celebrity guests and I am calling foul. They are holding out on us.
semi-related, How is it March already? I am eyeing my cosplay plans and wondering if I'm even going to be able to pull off one of the four. Just because of funds. I have all the materials found and
bookmarked/earmarked for purchase but idk. I definitely want my Sikozu costume for the big Farscape group, and I have Peggy already done and ready to go (save for some more hair tests)
but I am looking at my Regina, Arrow, and Cap plans and wondering if they'll get put on hold again. Because what is money right now?
I don't know what I want to do or if I can afford anything.
Well if things fall apart I will still forever be the John to your Aeryn.
I would also totally adore to get to do the many kickass love interests of Spider-man plan we had forever ago.
I will so buy Aeryn new pants and no matter what traipse around in my leather alllllll the time.
Oh my gosh. Yes. That. That would be amazing.
the eternal question now: try to find a cheap red wig somewhere, or try to cheaply dye my hair?
Iiiii need a long blonde wig, with bangs. And a black headband/cloth whatever which could even just be sewn into it.
I'll have to style any wig I end up with, since I have so many redheads I want to cosplay.
but luckily most if not all of them have long hair, which means if I get a certain quality in the right length it shouldn't be too hard to curl/straighten/pin curl/style
I'm still in mourning for Anthy's wig. That dress and that wig cost so much, and I love that dress so much, and now I can't actually wear it at the moment.
And it went over so well last year.
/hugs, what did happen to the wig?
Feather took it after con to fix it, and I paid her overnight fee for shipping it back to me, to get it here for PAX South, and after spending two hours prepping my hair and makeup, the whole back fell down
less than twenty minutes into having it on my head. I never even made it out the door.
Which was the third fix attempted on it.
In the end, for a wig that didn't work and couldn't be fixed well enough ever, it cost me more than my dress ever did.
augh. was it just the weight of it, you think?
Who knows. I have no clue now.
It was covered all over in glue spray to make it stay at Feather's so there's no way to even attempt any kind of save on it now. It's in my closet, making me
sad anytime I walk over to my shoes now.
oh no, so she pretty much ruined it trying to fix it. D:
if you have the suitcase space, bring it to DC this year and I will take it home with me. I cannot promise a miracle but I have a lot of patience and might be able to dosomething* with it, for you.
rather than it sit there making you sad.
I can try? Or I could try shipping it to you, parcel post. It would be cheapest, but it's not like we don't have five billion months and I;ve already pretty much given up on it, without the strength to chunk it
yeah, I was trying to think of a no-cost solution for you, depending on if you have to pay to check a bag when you fly to ATL
I have your address around here somewhere, right? Maybe?
You should. If you don't I can e-mail it to you.
That might be a thing that should happen. Sometime in the next week or two I need to mail two other things, too. So.
Okay. I will do that for sure, then. Not sure I have the mental wherewithal right now but. Tomorrow, for sure.
/is going to D*C for the first time this year and is EXCITED
No worries. No speed needed.
myraiden: OMG YAY! If you're comfortable with it we should totally meet up!
gabbynormal: I would be willing to try.
I don't think I've ever been to a con as big as this before.
we can chat later about details, but I am STOKED
I'm also geeking hard because JIM STERANKO is going to freaking be there
Absolutely! The thing about DC is yeah, it's big (and bigger every year) but the people there are, for the most part, awesome*. So even if you get elbowed once in a while, people are super friendly and cool.
The man is a living legend to me, so I am kinda screaming
but totally do feel free to PP or e-mail me about details, because I am always happy to meet up with other geeks at Con. And I usually play the role of tour guide for people's first cons lol
Someone I met through roommate share last year is coming back and already all like "YOU WILL SHOW ME ALL THE THINGS YES?" So. You can feel free to ride along with us.
and yes, I saw him! There are so many great people on the list already, I am just vibrating waiting to see who the headliners will be.
actually, just the whole con, I'm kinda screaming, so yeah. Excited
The Arrow/Flash crew pretty much made my year last year, just by being genuine and hilarious and cool people. Also B.J. Britt, because he called me gorgeous and I unabashedly have a huge Trip crush
it is by far my favorite Con
do you cosplay at all? because you're not gonna see better cosplay anywhere else, hands down. I think I can say with certainty D*C has all the other cons beat in that one regard.
aaand, plurk didn't show me a single one of these replies from you until I closed out and reopened
I have an oldie-but-goodie I'm wearing to meet Steranko, but then I have a new one I'm working on this year as well
I have a friend with me, so we're probably going to stick together for the most part but I'm looking forward to all sorts of shenanigans
I tend to stick to smaller comic book conventions, but this is gonna be AWESOME
I have Dennis O'Neil's autograph, and if I could get Steranko and Kaluta I would die a very, VERY happy woman
Cosplay Con. Definitely Cosplay Con.
I'm excited. My friend just stated cosplaying last year and did an epic job for her first outfit, and we are so excited this year to try something new. We are going to feel like novices, but don't care
It's a sort of nickname for that side of it.
oh, okay
awesome!
Cosplay Con. Because it has the very best EVER.
yeah we're gonna feel like we're in rags, but we won't care because we're doing our best right now to make these damn things
and we'll just oogle all the EPIC LEVELS
Rude, Plurk. So very rude. But ahhhh, you won't feel like you're in rags, trust me lmao
some of my favorites are the very obviously homemade ones. We get quite the array. It's a lot of fun.
And yeah, it is a big con compared to the small comic book conventions. My first year it was hard to figure out how to get from one hotel to the next and find all the panels I wanted, so it was a little
overwhelming, but still so much fun I knew I had to come back. And now I'm almost a pro at figuring out the fastest way from the Sheraton to the Westen lol
did you and your friend secure a host hotel, or are you staying in one of the overflow ones?
we haven't booked one yet. we plan to do so today, so it's likely it will be overflow, knowing what I do from others who attend the larger cons
Yeah, the hosts book up pretty much the day the rooms go on sale. But there are a few pretty good overflow hotels.
and several of them are right there on site, too
Yeah, we didn't decide to make D*C a thing until last month
mostly because it happens the exact same weekend as our favorite con that we've gone to three years in a row now
there is a bit of heartache there, not going this year
I recommend tracking the facebook page, as well as the main and rooming comm on LJ! You can sometimes find some good deals there, and just plain good info.
oh no. I know that feeling. /hugs
I have artists there that I visit every time, and I've gotten two commissions from, and I adore the people there. So it feels a little like having a Thanksgiving at someone else's house instead of home ^^;
But there are NEW and EXCITING things to do at a new-to-you con, so I'm still stoked
and will do about the rooming stuff! thanks!
Aww, that makes sense to me. If it's any consolation, D*C has a truly epic Artist's Alley, and the Dealer's Hall has grown so big they had to move it to a 3-storey mall, so.
One year Mike Mignola did a quick sketch and autograph for a friend of mine for free. People are usually pretty cool.
Nice. Yeah, I'm looking forward to new faces. It will be so crazy, I'm building in downtime to my days so I don't lose my mind or overdo it
I've been to enough technical conferences, that at least gave me the chance to learn that lesson the hard way in a less crazy setting ^^;
Also kinda glad Shatner is coming. He'll help draw people from some lines over to his XD He did that at awesomecon last year
YEP lol. It's nice at D*C because the headliners typically get their own rooms. So last year John Barrowman and Stephen Amell had their own signing room, which cleared up the Walk of Fame considerably.
Though Karen Gillan was in the WoF for some reason, probably because she was only there for 2 of the 5 days. Those two days were mad trying to move around the line.
She was super sweet and awkward though. It was kind of lovely to see. XD
Heh, I met John Rhys Davies last year. He was every part the adorable British gentleman.
I've only ever met artists/writers (who were all really nice!) up to that point so it was an awesome experience
XD He signed my copy of "Trial of the Incredible Hulk" and I treasure that thing so much
He smiled when he saw it, too
One of these days soon I need to get to one of the WizardCons so I can get Lou to sign it too and then it's going on display
but yes, DRAGON*CON holy cow
Lou comes to D*C almost every year, so you may be able to get it this year!
but man, I have wanted to go to WizardCon for a while
Have you not been to one?
wanderlustlover: A WizardCon? Nope, never been. I'm never out that far, I've only ever been to East Coast cons.
D*C is the farthest West I've gone for a Con. XD Though if I had the money I totally want to go to the new one you got in SA.
myraiden: /laughs quietly and hands you a paper bag
/gladly takes that and just breath in breath out
If he is there, I might just have to get new contact lenses and resurrect my Bixby-Banner cosplay
I'll let you know if/when I see his name pop up on the guest list. He's been there the last two years in a row so he may end up somewhere else this year, we'll have to see!
if he does go this year, you'll hear the happy screaming from however far away you are
it's a bucket list item to meet this guy, and three of my friends have already met him and I just... yeah
it's all good. one year we had both Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell there, and a friend of mine (HUGE Quantum Leap fan) almost died.
I had to hold her hand just to get her to go up to their table XP
great friends are awesome like that
but that's how I felt when Dean Cain came in 2014. I was such a HUGE Lois & Clark fan
