i have to plan the family trip so i'm just. OPENS LIKE 10 TRAVEL WEBSITES....
does anyone have hotel recs
we're going like june 4 to 12 so i am screaming
i was about to go oh no that's humid and hot as fuck during that time
we are Used to this. that is No Sweat
do you have hotels to recommend amy.... my dad wants to stay in shin yokohama but commuting to like. tourist destinations.
that's a bit far out from tokyo, a bit
als as an aside i'm looking at the tokyo map and [smt flashbacks]
yeah he used to go to shin yokohama A Lot so he knwos the area
Yeah, don't worry about summer in Japan
Summer in Osaka and Kyoto was all "Eh, it's not as bad as KL. Big deal."
it's cos of chinatown but otherwise you'll be stacking a bit of travel time onto going into tokyo areas. not terrible, but it is further out.
yeah LOL the temp itself is lower than aussie heat, but i couldn't hack it cos of the humidty
My favourite part of Osaka was going "I REMEMBER THIS PLACE FROM DESU2" so go visit any sites you went to in games!
i will..... visit all the smtiv landmarks
I can't help with hotels....my friends all went airbnb
YOOOO HAVE FUN! i have a uni thing on the 10th plus i still haven't brought it up to my parents so i doubt a two of us trip will be a thing :,3
i will... i'm marrking out all the plcaes
hills, sky tower...I DONT THINK IM ALLOWED TO GO INTO THE BASES BWAHAHA but i will visit the rest
i just found out that the sky tower is the sky tree lmfao i feel dumb
Sky Tower is significant in DeSu2 as well.
.....extremely significant
I stayed at Shinagawa Prince Hotel and it was really nice. The hotel isn't near somewhere historical but it's in front of the Shinagawa station so you can metro/subway your way there.
It's part of the JR line so you can hop in and get to either west or east and reach the main historical sites or tourist places without commuting.
yeah, being around shinagawa is AWESOME.
yokohama isn't the worst place to start from either? when i was doing my study abroad my host family was around there and i went into tokyo most days, so. like it's an hour on the train but.
...........................ah wait, if you're gonna go to Tokyo, that means you'll get to see K-Books with your own eyes
Fall to your knees and cry
sele said i shoudl go there arleady so i will go
well i might as well go to both right
the problme is that my parents will be following me so its like 8'D;;;
...................yeah, I. Otome Road will probably be safer.
In terms of "Is that AV stuff?"
i have al 11yo sister too
otome road is the road that animate ikebukuro is right?
That's what Wiki tells me, yeah.
idk, I found the fujoshi side of Ota Road in Osaka less blatant than the guy-pandering side
Entering Mandarake's BL side was all people quietly browsing doujins. Entering the GL/het side was more uh, nsfw
i feel like i'm not into a lot of the things they sell, though.... especialyl the ikebukuro one
It's actually possible to find gen and gag stuff! But yeah, it sounds like it's mostly bl
yeah and like. i have to drag my parents around. it is Not Safe
my sis wants ot go to disneyland so i'm checking the deets for her...
BL stuff is very subtle. They don't have like. Huge oppai mousepads.
...........ah, but I guess there's those dakimakuras
In my experience with Mandarake, at least, there's not much porny stuff out in the open. You have to dig through the shelves for it.
Unlike most het-focused doujin stores which... yeah.
But I also haven't been to every Mandarake out there.
I didn't go to Osaka's Mandarake, I think...? Mostly because to find it would've been a hassle and I got annoyed at getting lost the first time to Ota Road.
(I found out later that Ota Road was literally two streets behind my place)
(I screamed and walked back and bought more things)
!!
but Then Again, i am not really interested in doujins as a whole. I'm just there fore like. idk rubber keychains and pretty art...
as;ghdskhgls we'll see. i'll try to convince my parents to not follow me in i guess....
is it literally called ota road or
OH YES A QUESTION FOR OYU GUYS.... is it possible to get cheap wifi. because uh.
You could rent pocket wifi!
There's a couple of companies that do it, and some should be available at the airport.
Some might even available locally for you...? I know that there were for Malaysia
I didn't bother because my Airbnb places gave free pocket wifi
is it like those sticks that you plug into your computer? O:
Nah. It's like a tiny hub, you just slip it into your bag/backpack and walk around with it.
It's a locked wifi network and you usually can connect a couple of devices to it. Maybe 5?
do you know the prices etc
Mine looked like this
Sorry...you'll need to google that. :x
my dad wants to go to kamakura and im' trying to not let my trash show...
Like I said, my place gave me complimentary pocket wifi
Google Maps is your Very Best Friend
You can use it to track trains! And buses! And when to get down!!
....but it's also in Japanese but I don't think that'll be a problem for you
I mean, if I could get through Japan with only kana knowledge, you should have 0 problems.
Starbucks has free wi-fi! You'll need an account but it's free.
i need to find where the starbucks is then xD
Yes, but how will you find out bus and trains.
Oh-- right. Buses, use language knowledge + Google Maps.
Oddly enough, Hyperdia and Google Maps' fares differ, iirc, but I used it for a rough gauge. Check the official JR website for actual timetables if you're paranoid.
we're pressed for time so i have to figure out a smt siteseeing tour in just 1 1/2 days. wheezes
Yeah use WiFi for GPS. I got lost for 30 minutes trying to get to Animate in Ikebukuro. And there's hardly no easy to know where you are as opoosed to Kyoto.
If you are going to get anime match at Animate, everything is cramped and divided in floors. Iirc the most nsdw things like hardcore doujin were at the back and not in plain view
as opposed to super nsfw magazines just above the shonen section in a bookstore I browsed.
Animate is where you get all your blind boxes. DON'T FALL INTO THAT TRAP
I wasted money and didn't get what I wanted.
I need to find where it is lmfoa... I have exactly one day to settle all my Tokyo shit
I like the Prince and APA hotels but idk what price range you're wanting
But I would avoid Shin Yokohama... Not just cause you'd lose like maybe 2 hours of commute time per day but
Those lines are some of the most crowded because tons of people live in Kanagawa then commute in to Tokyo for work so...
I used to live near Kawasaki and it was packed as fuck and so miserable depending on the time you were riding
we stayed at the prince in ikebukuro!!
it was p reasonable I think
I'd come down to see you if I had time off.. ugh Tokyo is so fun though
thanks for the advice guys
whysofork same TBH.... I do want to go to comiket one day so if I have the money again....
Tokyo is fun but when do I get time off... The classic tale of working in Japan not in Tokyo...
I was just in Tokyo and I stayed at a placed called the Richmond Hotel Mejiro and I was really happy with it.
Located two minutes down the street from a Yamanote line station, good rooms at fairly cheap rates
Staff was very friendly/helpful and spoke good English.
Also really great breakfast, although you have to pay a little for it.
The only thing is, I know they were renovating and were planning to shit down for renovation purposes at some point in the summer
So they might be closed during that time. I'm not sure.
Also it didn't bother me but the room was kind of small. Comfortable! But small.
You definitely SHOULD go to Milky Way. It's a parfait restaurant and it's flipping amazing.
To get there, go to Ikebukuro station and head out the Sunshine City exit. You'll see it across the street.
i haev to go to ikebukuro to shop anyway 8')
Ikebukuro I miss you so much... Kyoto only has so much...
!!
