I was thinking of picking up Terra from KH fame, though sadly not a ravenclaw but he'd be a great bruiser for gryffindor?

(by bruiser I mean anything that's a physical position basically)

yep! BBS is special like that, once you've beaten a game a theater unlocks where you can view all the cutscenes of a character's beaten story

super useful for canon review (though I wouldn't discourage a playthrough because it is fun)

Captaincy isn't mandatory. Just letting you know. If no one is comfortable being captain, or doesn't want their character to be for a set of reasons, it's not strictly necessary for in game purposes
