we have a semi-reliable light-up disk!
(just ignore that one of the fingers on the glove has stopped working again)
How did you do the light disk mod?
we've got a couple lines of EL wire super glued onto the disk (which is what is glowing)
I also need to get more light disks for my eventual Tron cosplay thing. ;m; I only have one Rinzler disk and need another, and two Sam disks. Blargh
Ohhh, did you have to open it up to add them, or just do it on the outside?
and it's powered by 2 bare copper contacts on the back, which match up to contacts on the glove
which is where we have the driver and power supply
i'll get a picture of it in light
tronja307020: These aren't the deluxe disks-- they're the regular frisbee variety! We just added our own glowy.
(The deluxe ones are cooler looking as a baseline, but loads more expensive and they don't stay lit for long. These ones, we've rigged to turn on and off when you move your hands to a specific position-- so you can "activate" them with the right sorta twitch.
)
(Also, the regular frisbee ones can stack for disk splitting/melding.
)
Ohhhh, well that's handy!
If you didn't mind cutting small holes into the disk itself, I bet you could hide everything inside of it, too!
but i'm not sure i trust myself to make that work any better
Man, now that makes me want to get more of those and make them into prop disks! I wonder if someone has a sound chip with the effect that you could put onto it so that it would load when you activated the thing! :V
and when it's held, the hand hides the wire on the top pretty well?
Oh yeah, definitely, for what it is right now, it's awesome! When I do stuff, I just tend to try and make everything harder on myself. lol
yeaaah, we kinda started working on things and realized we didn't need it to be harder
haha yeah, that's a sound understanding to come to.
(see also, why is the other finger broken AGAIN?!?)
(Look on the bright side, the electroshock function works fine.)
Because something
always has to go wrong, lbr.
..............no.
HAPPY ELECTROCUTION INDUCING SIDE
"anti hug features" side?
and i have a video to show the masterful reliability of the glow, but uh
i have no clue how to upload it here
Yes plz! I want to see this!
I wonder if larger contacts would make it stay on more reliably?
we actually re-did one of them earlier
using a wire coil instead of the copper tape we'd been trying
There you go.
it's kinda a trade off between the contacts sticking out of the glove/off the disk and the actually being able to get power thru
At this point, I think we mostly need to find the right configuration and actually stick the contacts down. For about half of the "not working" time there, I was just unable to find the contact underneath.
yeah, it's not very visible, but only 2 of the 4 contacts are actually securely mounted
"securely"
one of them is melted into the plastic of the disk
The other disk one's floppy though.
we could just melt that one into the disk too?
i was trying to avoid doing that in case they had to move, but...
Mm, let's be really sure of our placement first. It's tricky to hit both hand-contacts wherever we put it, but if we're off on the disk side, it'll be outright impossible.
So, science first! Melting later~
