personally i would definitely collect this deck but we wanted to know what others think because it could be seen as defining the characters who would be donated by them being LGBT alone
but i might be overthinking things so that's why we wanted more opinions
I mean, don't all the scrapbook decks focus on one trait of the characters? That doesn't mean they're defined by that trait alone.
I'm in favor of the overall subject category since some scrapbook characters are just like, female protags, they're not defined by their femaleness
On the other hand, I feel a little weird about like, the idea for one category of all LGBT characters, though if things were split out then the lack of fine labels could get dicey
If there's just one LGBT deck then it's quite likely people could think there aren't enough characters within the deck of a specific type
that's true but i also wouldn't want there to be fights over a character's specific label when it's not clearly stated in canon other than "this character is definitely not straight"
That's true especially because in east asian culture/media it is not as common to have "today I come out as ____sexual"
i heard the word "bisexual" used in anime exactly once, except that it would be easiest with bi/pan characters because with them you usually have canon proof of their attraction to more than one gender
while with gay and lesbian characters it's often that their same gender attraction is shown but it is never stated that they have no interest in other genders unless the series is long finished and it is safe to assume this
i know the mods of canonlgbtcharacteroftheday struggle with this often
i think the uncertainty behind their orientations/preference in media could be misread as fan impression, which could cause unrest, and reaching for anything more confirmed would put us closer to creating another mmlove deck... which is sad because it's a sweet idea.
i would definitely collect it, without a doubt.. but it's a toughie!
although i do think perhaps having an umbrella and naming the deck something like 'lgbt' could make it possible without any of the picking at precisely what their label is/isn't? 8^|a
yes! however, then we run into the problem Lenga described, with uneven representation
i would split it into at least two decks, because i feel 20 spots is not enough for the whole spectrum, but i honestly have no idea how to make this split
(and mastery badge could be wandering son)
I don't even Colors anymore, but I honestly don't see a problem with it. It's not outright saying their orientations/identities, and there are plenty of LGBT+ characters in anime for this to be possible. I don't believe any one deck could fully embrace every possible orientation/identity but I think it would be a very nice thing to have around the community
If you're to make multiple decks out of this, then maybe you could run another Plurk to see how many characters people can think of that fit each orientation/identity that you want a deck for?
Kind of a test-run before you go for the actual decks mainly to check for character count before you actually need them for the deck's completion (due to release deadlines)
i can list some on the top of my head and
this blog is also a great resource, it's the split itself that i'm unsure about and i'd be leaning towards umbrella term for the deckname, but at the same time i'd make at least two decks, maybe separated into older and newer canons?
kind of an arbitrary split but i would want these decks to be basically the same in terms of theme, since making separate decks for every identity would mean running into problems with unspecified characters like discussed above
