Sometimes just one, sometimes all at once.
Last week, I 'diagnosed' the problem via the simple expedient of noticing that the outlet everything was plugged into was broken.
(The wiring in this buildling is like 100 years old.)
I bodged together a temporary fix, until we can get an electrician, which was... supposed to happen...
So naturally, something else went wrong.
[Diagnosis: wall outlet bad. Solution: do nothing. Result: Azy blamed.]
(Ohhh no no no, I got it in writing. Always get it in writing.)
I worked for a bank for ten years. There, you could get it in writing and still be blamed for someone else's upfucking
Fortunately, my boss is actually a good person, and I'm the only one here who can do the things I do, such as making the emails work and fixing permissions on the software.
(...okay, lies, there are a couple of other people here who can do one or both, but they find it's faster and easier to go "Aaaaazzzyyyy fix the thing???" Which I do because they carry heavy stuff and organise displays and stuff that I'd rather not do.)
Anyway, I got called in today - my day off - because the main computer was Just Not Working.
You know. The one plugged into the busted outlet.
I sent up a prayer to the Tech Gods that it wasn't the power supply, and bopped on over, since the pie shop is only a couple doors over, and I was availing myself of their excellent coffee.
ah, ok, I'm just used to people trying to find new and different places to stab you ni the back so it doesn't get stuck in the rest of the scar tissue.
Oh yeah, that's the normal way of things. But my Boss Lady is an actual... A++ Good Human??? Like. Bafflingly so sometimes.
It was not, thankfully, the power supply. But all my beautiful cords were in disarray, and everything was FULL OF DUST.
I turned off all the things, cleaned that fucker out, and then plugged everything back into the correct ports, and chucked the busted USB hub that was, for some reason, hanging off the back of the tower. (There are more than enough ports for everything.)
Got it turned on, and LO IT LIT UP--- and demanded a boot disk.
assuming you checked the drive cables tout de suite.
Everything
seemed okay though, so I carefully turned it all back on again, and... It booted up with no problem, faster than it had last week before the problems really got going.
So I had
Ygrane print this out for me. She wrote the words and made my day.
She gets me.
