I found out the person I was hired to replace got hired for a (much better, higher-paying, more prestigious) position... that I interviewed for a while back. Fuck me.

but clearly whatever this person did at this job you have now was valuable and helpful to the point that they got the better job so hopefully that translates to forward motion for you!!
