I didn’t want to tweet about this publicly but w/ all the stuff going around about anime matsuri I remembered that last week someone shared the thing about the leighs threatening to sue in the AA group on FB and it was met with “not everybody has the luxury of choosing what cons to sell at!!!!! I have to pay bills!!!!!!!”
and I was just outraged lmao
and confused, because... if you’re so broke that you have to take any con that’s near you, you probably shouldn’t be doing AA in the first place, it’s not a job for the financially unstable

it’s such a stupid argument, it’s not like AM is the only con in the entire state and if you’re there for AA you’re not there for guests (usually, bc you are... running your table) so you’re just ignoring the problem and giving money to terrible people
there’s really no excuse, selecting cons is not a “luxury” and that’s the most horseshit thing I’ve heard in quite a while
the reach on that to avoid admitting you're supporting an all-but-proven creep and fraud is actually impressive

yeah, exactly, it's not hard to avoid a convention but if you don't stop attending cons run by shit people with shit business practices because your business "doesn't discriminate based on allegations of the practices of the owners" or whatever, I'm going to assume you support what those shit people are doing, period

Yeah, no one "needs" to go to the con. If you're obsessed w/the guests, at the very least you should see if you can successfuly borrow someone else's badge to see them and not give the con itself money. Not usually in favor of outright malicious fraud but if it's that important to you, find a work around.
And posting on the "won't be in AM AA because con owners are shitlords, please support me this principled boycott hurts my bottom line" is the way to go
Might even get you some business you wouldn't otherwise get from out of area folks who appreciate what you're doing.
But AA is very few people's Day Job / Main Support for good reason.
I have heard that even ghosting the con is a bad idea because AM uses the warm body count method
