the y office seems to have a really different process for, uh, most things, than the lumens office
the project manager for this has us doing conference calls twice daily that take at least 15 minutes and consist of nothing more than rehashing what we're supposed to be doing and then going around and asking everybody individually if they have any questions and how their progress is going
(she also insists that they be VIDEO calls because she thinks it makes the calls more productive)
she's been stressing "overcommunication" and frequently pings "@ all" in hipchat and we all have to respond to those message
instead of having a spreadsheet that automatically tracks percentage/number of SKUs complete we now have two spreadsheets in which we have to clock what hours we're in the office, how many SKUs we've done that day (which we were doing before), how many hours we work, and how many hours of overtime we work
there's a separate spreadsheet for overtime
in this morning's call she was like "is it easier for you guys if I freeze this pane or does that make it harder" and we're like
we're just trying to get the work done
oh GOD she sounds like my boss
we now have to spend so much time logging things, responding to hipchat pings about stuff that isn't relevant to our particular work, not understanding how things work in the PIM, and doing conference calls that we're getting a significantly less amount of work done
er, dealing with her not understanding how things work in the PIM
in the PIM there's a major difference in approach between products and product sets and so like, the other new hire and I can't handle product sets because we're not experienced enough but this manager can't tell the difference because Y doesn't use the PIM and keeps assigning them to us
while I was out sick on monday there was an actual argument between her and our side of the team (which is the bulk of the team) because she wanted us to go through and verify with the vendors that every single SKU is 100% correct and then match it to the PIM ID
(this would take approximately 2.5 months)
the person I work most closely with (who is a more senior member of the team) was like "no, you need to choose between making sure every single detail is completely correct, or just making sure the MPNs match and getting the project done before april."
like four or five times today she's pinged @ all to ask something like "so the product in line [whatever] is a product group? just to confirm, it is a product group? do I put this in the main group tab?"
(the main group tab is where we've been collecting our assigned work)
and every time amanda and sully are like "no, those are product groups, they go in the product group tab"
she chastised me a few minutes ago because I put the date on something I was going to start working on after lunch and the column is technically "date completed"
and she was like "don't do that, it causes confusion"
to who??? nobody else is looking at the work that was assigned TO ME
it's going to get done today
that confuses literally nobody
nobody here is confused. nobody here cares
we're all just trying to do our work
my boss does that all the time like "do this weird, long, confusing, strange thing that makes sense to no one but me because if you don't it'll confuse people"
"if you do reasonable thing you'll confuse people" who
and she pinged me on it literally like 30 seconds after I marked it lmfao MAYBE I JUST HADN'T GOTTEN THERE YET can you stop breathing down my neck please I just want to do the work
I want to know who is getting confused because I think it might just be you
everybody here is so chill so we never have to deal with this so all of this micromanaging has everybody so aggravated lmao
I'm on lunch now so I'm just like "how has everybody put up with this for the last two days" bc that's when she really knuckled down
jazqui: I did think of you and your boss a little when people started filling me in on all the drama I missed lmao
like this manager is not a bad person and probably not even a bad manager honestly, and she's not like, mean or aggressive but this is so counter to the sac office's culture
you could also just go into ADP and look at our timecards instead of having us log hours worked on two different spreadsheets
this is just such a disaster
oh I guess andrea doesn't have access to adp but she could get becky to pull it, this extra logging is all just for her benefit (though I think our hours get shared with the CEO??)
