just spent 5 minutes unable to remember the word americans use for 'serviette' which was VITALLY IMPORTANT for the writing I'm doing right now. Extremely pivotal.
a paper napkin ^^ Which, we do use the word napkin here too, but it normally refers to like, a really large thing rather than a small piece of paper! But it seems like serviette isn't commonly used in the US? So says my googling, anyway!
Oh !!!! Oh ya that does make sense, I think it’s the French word for napkin actually -- I can confirm it’s not commonly used in the US though, I’ve never actually heard someone use the word in English before ;;;
I mean we have the little paper napkins too, but the big cloth things used in higher end restaurants are just. Cloth napkins haha , at least from what I know
I keep thinking I know all the words that are local here and their US equivalents but even now I continue to learn new ones hehe~ I only discovered 'doona' was an Australian word last week thanks to Wally (it means... comforter? the really big thick bed blanket that's often filled with feathers or that fluffy polyester stuff!)
Ooohhh! Doona !!! I’ve never heard that before but I like it ehehe I think I know a few American equivalents for British words, but tbh I don’t think I’m v familiar with localized Australian terms aahh TvT
