i had gyro for two years with no problems. in the last month or so, i've now had six fish die.
my new betta lasted a week, and i just found him belly up at the bottom of the tank... i feel like a failure
i don't have time for it today but i guess it should bring a water sample to petsmart and see if there's something wrong with the water at my apartment causing it...
were they all new aside from him?
yeah, i got the minnows around january and the tetras a few weeks ago. i got the new betta last sunday.
three tetras, one minnow, the sucker fisher and the ghost shrimp are absolutely fine and show no signs of illness at all.
minnows like feeder fish?
those don't tend to last long by default
my thinking is it could easily be your source rather than your apartment. I had that happen when I was breeding guppies.
the thing is, the tetras and minnows didn't die in the water. four separate fish all jumped out of the tank and suffocated on my floor.
my only explanation is that something was wrong with the water and the stress drove them to try and escape.
josuke is going strong though, he's the hardiest fish in the tank.
I was thinking that they were just dying randomly
either way i'm really sick of putting dry fish corpses in the trash... i think i'm gonna stop buying new fish and if the current ones die before i get a dog i'll get a mouse or something.
I've never had fish jump on me and I kept 9 tanks at once with at least 5 having no lids so I couldn't even begin to theorize
yeah, i've never had it either... i thought it was a fluke when okuyasu did it but then dead fish just kept cropping up all over my floor
one of them fell into my towel and i didn't see it until i'd finished drying my hair after a shower it was traumatizing
I don't know how petsmart tests, unfortunately most stores I know don't run every test just the basics
could it be the ph levels in the water? I'm just guessing
omg that towel thing just showed up. that sounds traumatizing.
well the people at petsmart genuinely know their stuff in my experience, so if the tests they run don't show anything then at least they'll point me in the right direction...
i'm so bummed tho, my new betta was so pretty. he was like a unicorn's ghost.
i'm sorry dude, that's really fucked up
I wanna say I'm fine but I'm a bleeding heart about my fish and you all know this
....and since my mental state likes to jump to the worst possible places, every time a fish dies I think "I can't handle this, how the fuck am I going to handle my cat dying and what if I'm not there when she goes?"
