the average gross revenue for people in my demographic (4-6 years experience, single table, predominantly anime with a smattering of video games, 2D art) is like.... double my average gross revenue
so I'm always like "where am I going wrong"
I know that I could stand to be a better salesperson
is it just because I have a lot of niche fandom stuff
I'm screaming about whoever the fuck earned $23k at one con with primarily prints though
and also about whoever earned $7 at a 3-day con
YAPPARI
lmao. anime boston.
west coast also has highest US respondents of doing local cons (vs driving an hour+ or flying)... thanks for one million cons
(canada actually has highest percentile of "no I didn't travel")
I wonder if this is going to trend into an uptick post-bubble burst
LOL
ANIME MATSURI ACROSS THE BOARD IN THE SHAME BUCKET
but also hell yeah @ sacanime in the top 5 for organization
the staff is so good I love them god bless
I really want to shoot for anime boston someday but katsucon is the priority for east coast cons
oh AX was the $23k In Prints con
you need to start networking with who to bribe like now for katsu ok
LMAO god I don't know who is even in charge of that AA
also anime north always shows up with good scores in this survey but when it gets to the reviews section there's a unilateral "the staff is absolute garbage" so I wonder what goes wrong every single year
i'm trying to remember from when i went last but i think there was really poor communication about when people could load in and out
i'm probably wrong though
some choice quotes: "the artist alley staff at anime north are renowned to be garbage from the toilet, and this year has been no exception."
"garbage staff. the AN artist alley staff do their best to be condescending, patronizing bullies to their attendees and continue to introduce increasingly asinine rules to restrict variety."
nts take extra monies to tip artists this year
basically it seems that they're continually adding seemingly arbitrary rules that divide up the 2D and 3D sections as well as bringing the hammer down on fanartists in dealers (which have guaranteed rebooking) so it's more fodder for the lottery system
as well as being rude and picky about useless stuff like signage and what "qualifies" to be in either one section or another
apparently signage denoting series names was banned
"The artist alley staff were very rude and picky about
signs/labels denoting series names on items, and
would either wait and watch you remove the sign
on the spot or repeatedly come back to check."
however! scores of 4.3 for both buying interest and engagement (out of 5) so everybody keeps going back because attendees are worth it
i know the friends i go with go there to Spend on fan stuff
hmmmmm
FUCKING HMMMMMMMMMM
it's hard with small data samples but I can't help but feel that the 75% returning artist figure is representative of the AA in general
the same people for more than four years, wow
i mean if a con is good i get going back!!
but it does make sense that it's harder for a new person to get in
it's one of the perils of a juried system
it's a similar peril with fcfs because some people are just really good at Going Fast but also very different because personal bias has played a huge role in katsu in the past
also the EXP refers to how many years they've been doing AA in general, not necessarily katsucon specifically
commentariat is referencing rude staff as well
"would not recommend if you don't make at least $2k on average (after expenses)" look I already know going into this that I'm going to lose money but I gotta go at least once ok
I've never earned more than $1.5k gross, lol, hence my wondering what is wrong with my merch or setup or me personally that I don't do better
