I just dig the idea of using an oldschool plant-based dye, but very few things seem to show before-and-after images - and, even in those that do, the change is sometimes so subtle it could just be explained by different lighting.

I have a dear friend who has sworn by henna for years and uses it to keep her hair red.

Can't address what the before was, but it looks great!

Red's the color I'd be going for, too - ideally a dark red. I'm just not sure if henna is strong enough to get me there from blonde.

Though I've also thought about going with blue or purple sometime - and now I wonder if woad and indigo work on hair... :3
