This is the first opportunity for characters to get in on any outside-the-fence action, so we're tossing a few relevant deets into this plurk to help you get started.
BEFORE YOU CLAIM AN EXPEDITION! Your character needs to get cleared for action over
here. It's totally okay if your character can't get cleared yet! They can re-test anytime, like (for example) after learning a few neato combat skills that would allow them to defend themselves out there.
In the meantime, there's a lot of CR potential in your character needing (or being) a chaperone. In fact, when we roll out official Ortech (non-civilian) job opportunities within the next few weeks, one of those job roles will actually be the designated chaperone for people who don't have one available.
(For now, if you want your character to go outside for an assignment they'd be good at but have no combatant chaperone available, you can just handwave that Ortech sent a chill dude or chick with a gun along with your character and they largely stayed out of the way.)
It says on the page that you can only claim one per month - instead, I'm editing that to "one limited-space expedition per month", as there are a couple of them that can be done any number of times by any number of people, and more of those will absolutely crop up.
Basically just follow the instructions on the Expeditions page to claim an assignment. We recommend (if at all possible and IC) opening it up to other players/characters to hop into, especially for the larger-team missions, but it's not mandatory of course.
Oh shit, I switched Plurks. Here I go from over here I guess!
When reading about an expedition, it's worth noting:
1. Almost any of these can go Very Very Awry if you'd really like them to, though we do plan to have ample expeditions with a much higher actual IC probability of danger, so don't feel obligated to cram mayhem into (for example) a simple routine patrol or sample-gathering trip.
2. The team composition section will usually either mandate (ICly from Ortech) or strongly recommend skills/types of character who will drastically improve the odds of success, as seen in a couple of these. As time goes on, missions will crop up that won't offer that luxury, and characters will have to use their best judgment on what skills the team needs.
3. The estimated length is based on the assumption that nobody gets lost, hurt, or badly distracted along the way. It could honestly take significantly longer than listed. Please don't die out there.
4. Pay attention to any bolded text in the ETC section - this will tell you how many times the mission can be claimed. Some are infinite, some are multiple but limited, and some can only be claimed once.
The back-and-forth in which the team and the mods hash out the expedition deets will all happen in the
Archive, and it'll happen fairly quickly compared to the speed at which you'll actually be threading it out. If things come up when you do thread the expedition that didn't come up in the questioning, you can alway
*always come back to that Archives thread - those never get deleted.
...That's not really tips or advice, I named this section poorly.
Here's some tips and advice, have fun and get into trouble.
