i kind of want to film a recreation of this scene but as Luci
i feel like a lot of people would yell at me for it...which kiiiiinda isn't a deterrant?
"then i was inspired/now I'm sad and tired" SURE IS A WICDIV MOOD
god the part where they just zoom in on all the renaissance paintings while the music builds...is my favourite stupid thing in any movie ever
and in fact I think a lot about wicdiv coulda worked better with more JC:S influence
JC being reluctant and even angry about his role and his fate and what it means: probably could have worked for WicDiv!
I mean, I think the point of wicdiv is that none of them actually were Chosen Messiahs at all because there is no such thing
we still have 2 issues to go but the whole handling of the "I am not a god" scene gives me pause
yeah naw it's just not what I wanted it to be... so it's hard to like, judge it on its own merits from right from the getgo it was on about different shit than I was
it bugs me because APPARENTLY the problem is young people thinking they're special. as opposed to the 6000 year old sociopath who cheats death and grooms mentally fragile isolated young people.
if you have Phenomenonal Cosmic Power and you walk up to a mentally ill 19 year old who is homeless or neglected by their parents or questioning their gender identity and you tell them they're special, Fucking Duh they're going to believe you.
and like "actually this is all a scam" IS an interesting thing to ignore, but the comic spends so much time wallowing in the kids mistakes, that when it finally does come clean "actually they were all duped" it's like "well now i feel real awkw about the previous 35 chapters"
and just, pacing, and lying to the audience etc
LIKE I MEAN THE FACT THAT THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A MYSTERY, BUT THEY HAD TO REDRAW THE LITERAL OPENING SCENE BECAUSE THEY CHANGED THE SECRET CULPRIT'S PERSONALITY
so like "ha HA we showed you one thing but you didn't know it was different, but the misdirection was not for any in-universe reason we just decided to use the exact same shots only now the characters facial expressions match their motivations"
I think his story wanted to be "this is how queer/othered/at-risk kids can get taken advantage of by a sociopathic money-printing machine that traps them by praising their worst traits until the kids self destruct"
but due to pacing and wanting to have Shocking Tweests, actually he told the story of "look at these kids just fucking it all up, look at how slutty and self-important they are, yikes... PSYCHE, THEY WERE BEING ABUSED ALL ALONG"
"IF ONLY THEY HAD BEEN MORE HUMBLE, MAYBE THEY WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN VICTIMIZED"
also, mild musical theatre discourse,
but the film soundtrack is the best recording for JC Superstar
anyway
I'm interested in what happens next issue because this Luci has seemed pretty apt at calling Bullshit, albeit in a theatrical fashion
