joking about rewards then one said "that's the cat that <mumble> ran over". I went over to speak to them and they all denied saying it, butppinted at the one who did, who was still denying it.
When he admitted to it his story kept changing, then his sister kept changing it. The story doesn't tally with what we know, even if he got the day wrong. One of the

other kids queried him and seemed to be doubting it wad true. That one said something like "it might not have been that cat anyway"
the boy said that the cat ran off under the tree that was the very first place I'd looked, then when I said that his sistet corrected it to running off into bushes.
We went to the houses near the indicated bushes and no one had

seen or heard anything.
I don't really believe that he saw anything. He was just showing off to the big kids.
But it is still there in the back of my mind that the cat at the care home isn't Squeaps and she has actually been hit by a car.
I've put a post on the two local community FB pages asking anyone who hit a cat on our road to let us know anonymously by

contacting the page admins.
