Unai Emery Press Conference (North London Derby) Arsenal vs Tottenham (29.08.2019). Every word Unai Emery just said on starting his front three, Ozil's fitness, transfers & Spurs.
Hello and welcome to London Colney where Unai Emery is speaking to the media ahead of Arsenal's match with Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.
The Gunners are looking to bounce back immediately after the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool last weekend and Emery knows there is no better way than to win the north London derby at the Emirates. The Arsenal boss will be previewing the mouth watering clash, as well as providing an update on transfers ahead of the European window closing next week.
What are your memories of your first north London derby in December?
"I want to speak about each match as different because we can remember last year's derby with some positives and less positive. I want to write a new derby, a new match and a new moment for us here. It's a derby with our supporters at home and I want a special day with them." - Unai Emery
Is that the sort of intensity that you want to see this Sunday?
"Yes, intensity was very important. They are going to try and play with identity and need to impose our gameplan against them, knowing it's going to be difficult.
We need to look at our position defensively and offensively. Above all, we need to play each ball, each metre, each minute with that intensity. After, we need to be clever when we have the ball and are in good situations to make the difference against them.
Also, I think it's a very, very big challenge for us and it's a very, very good moment, a good match and the possibility of winning against them on Sunday gives a chance for good success.
We also remember that last year we finished behind them with only one point's difference in 38 matches. We are going to play against the Champions League finalists and there are a lot of positives for us, for our supporters, to enjoy that match on Sunday." - Unai Emery
Is Rob Holding going to be available for the match on Sunday?
"He's training with us and playing with U23s. He's not 100 per cent for Sunday with us." - Unai Emery
You're waiting to see?
"We are doing with him one way playing with U23s and training with us. We're testing his performance each day with us and the U23s. He's getting better. He can play one match but not with the intensity we want for Sunday for example." - Unai Emery
Will Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney be available after the international break?
"We have to be calm but also be demanding with their recovery because we need them. The international break will give us two weeks to test them better than before. Now my focus with the players who can play Sunday and prepare with them.
After the match we will stop with different players and test how they can be closer to the team to start playing with us." - Unai Emery
Is Mesut Ozil going to be in your squad?
"This week he's training well and progressing physically better and training with normal work for us. He's going to be closer to us and available for Sunday I think." - Unai Emery
Will he still be here come Monday night?
"Yes, we finish here our transfer window and in Europe it's going to finish on Monday. We cannot sign another player, but we have some players the possibility to leave in next four days.
The club is working. Some players know their situation. My focus and the team's focus is on prepare the game for Sunday and we are concentrating on that." - Unai Emery
Mesut isn't one of them?
"No, we are not speaking about the possibility for Mesut to leave." - Unai Emery
Monreal to your old club?
"Yes, he's one possibility." - Unai Emery
On the diamond formation...
"I understand (the question). We won with the diamond last year, and we lost with it. We can win and we can lose with the diamond. The consequence of the result on Sunday was not the diamond, but really we are ready to play with different tactical decisions.
Last year we worked and used different formations with good performances because the players here have worked on different systems. Also, they have the habit of playing in different systems. We are more rich tactically with different formations and tactics and can change in each match and each moment in the 90 mins.
On Sunday we will decide the best possible system for us, thinking of our gameplan and to adapt for Tottenham." - Unai Emery
