welp not how i wanted to spend my friday, but i'm glad i trusted my instincts-- sundance (formerly sweet pea, but now sundance again, the dark tabby) always eats like a champ, plays like a champ, etc

until this afternoon when he didn't want lunch at all. period

suddenly really lethargic and his third eyelids wouldn't retract

next thing i know, he's heaving and i went "yeah no buddy let's get you over a container i'd better see what comes up"

sure enough: roundworms

he's be okay. took him to the emergency animal hospital, and he hasn't had any other symptoms so i'm p sure it was caught as early as it could have been, but i'm surprised the shelter didn't give him any preventative deworming recently

takes two weeks for incubation, and we've had him less than that with no contact with other cats/indoors only

he and his little sister are also still quarantined from each other too, so he likely didn't get it from her

:c whole thing is freaking out catharine and teagan, tho

i mean it's not great, having your kitten suddenly barf up worms, but roundworms are really treatable

and he hasn't had any diarrhea or anything like that, or any dull fur or whatever

so prognosis is good

he's having diagnostics/treatment done and i'll be getting him back in an hour or so, provided they don't need to have him overnight

i'm used to it because i've just done so much volunteering for shelters and worked over a decade with a pet boarding business so it just doesn't surprise me as much

and i'd see cases of roundworms all the time, especially volunteering-- usually the only time i saw it with the boarding is when someone brought in a puppy they just adopted

and yeah fingers crossed here too!
