every time I depict Arthur from a time before or up to when he and Jeffrey meet, I put him in earthy tones, as opposed to his usual grey/black/blue

this is because Alex and Nora both wear earthy tones. those shades of green and brown are prominently featured in things that have to do with Confidence and, arguably more importantly, Providence.
